“Ferentz, 36, has ties with several front office members and coaching staff, including to offensive coordinator Nick Caley and offensive line coach Cole Popovich. Ferentz played with the New England Patriots from 2017 to 2023 and won two Super Bowls.”

I'm sure it's already been said, but we do not need to extend CJ. He's due $28M next year (which is too much in my opinion) and we can Franchise him if we need to the following year. Part of it is the o-line, but his decision making was horrendous during the playoff loss...

I had him as a target a year ago... we going to snag some former Giants too?

Edit: we WILL be drafting an OL from Iowa. Take that bet.

Ferentz is alrdy assistant oline coach for Giants. Is he making a lateral move to come to Texans or is he taking some bigger role?

Might not fit with new coach & new OC... they could be just letting him walk

The offense was installing a new system, with... 5? 6? new starters and a first-time play caller. If you're a boxer, you don't schedule the reigning champion in your first fight.

Their focus/priority should have been learning the new terminology/methodology, etc., and *then*, when the fundamentals were down, sure - take on the best and see how you stack up. Good, experienced offenses struggled against that defense; under no circumstances should they have spent the summer having their entire operation blown to smithereens by a better, more experienced defense. I would imagine it set the offense back - in addition to all the other obstacles they put in their way.

    NO WAY!?!?!

I'm telling you... Caserio finger-wagging Jonathan Alexander while defending the offensive ecosystem was THE tell. Ryans, for whatever reason, has very clearly abdicated the offensive side of the ball to Caserio; so much so, I'm starting to think even the Tunsil trade - which *felt* like a Ryans move - was Caserio's idea. I hope I'm 100% wrong (I'm not) - but this is bad... Really, really bad...

The biggie is going to be our IOL... the staple of NE system was (1) creating a cushion / platform for Brady to throw; (2) getting the throw out quickly 2.17 - 2.6 seconds; & (3) athletic tackles who could push edge rushers way outside effectively creating the pocket to throw from.

Jake Andrews ain't going to cut it at center in such a scheme. I think we are going to invest in really massive IOL who are just solid and will not be moved in pass pro.

I could envision signing Chris Paul (not that CP, the one who plays IOL for the Commanders & played at JV + is 6'4, 324 lbs) & Cade Mays (6' 6, 325 lbs.) because they are hosses. Then maybe drafting Dunker because we are getting a player from Iowa (90% sure).

left to right: Ersery - Paul - Mays - Dunker - Howard

I was using $299.5M so a ~$6M bump (that's enough for the rookie draft class)

another hire with pats ties, who would’ve thought?

aside from my hate for this, is he really good or is this another typical Caserio move to bring all of his associates to the organization?

Nothing wrong with bringing on people you are familiar with. You have a better idea what you are getting

It’s not just him. Seth Payne also made and continues to believe this sentiment.

    Wait...

We love Iowa OL, but we don't like the former Iowa OL who happens to be the son of the long-time Iowa HC...just because he played a few years with the Pats?

Didn't watch the vid but I get the gist of it...something I honestly never really thought about since I don't really think about training camp all that much.

    Makes some sense.

Wonder if this was a form of rookie hazing. Sure didn't do the offense any favors in getting the new system down. I think Seth Payne said something similar happened during the inaugural year with the defense being so far ahead of the offense and it made it hard for Carr and Palmer to get any rhythm.

They've got a couple absolute dogs in the draft. Certainly wouldn't complain
