They wanted Jabari before Brooks. I'm glad we kept Jabari for the long-term value, but losing Dillon really hurts.
Odd but, rate stats alone, zero on-court eye test, '26 Dillon Brooks and '25 Cam Whitmore are lot more similar than it seems While Cam Whitmore was blasted for his non-passing, Dillon Brooks past 3 years lowkey is as much non-passing tendencies as Whitmore. Brooks has a NEGATIVE assist/TO ratio this season. Assists and Turnovers per 100 possessions '25 Whitmore: 2.9 / 2.7 '26 Brooks. 2.7 / 3.0 This season is essentially letting Brooks score "Cam" style. Difference of course is Brooks is more basketball disciplined, more on-court connectivity than Whitmore. Point being, maybe average efficient high scoring with sacrifices to other parts of game, but just appearing as a floor stretcher, isn't the worst thing after all
I think it is also percentage, if Whitmore shot 38 and 39% instead of 35 or 35.9% I doubt that you could take Playing time away from him just because the Rockets could not shoot back then. Merely 3% better would have made a difference. Brooks had a stretch where he was scorching hot.
Should have given up Tari. But then again they needed to match salaries. Or could have given up Amen and Sheppard. In hindsight would Durant Sengun and JG work? You would have a dominant scorer flanked by a SG that could drive and shoot and a big. Very balanced team with 4 shooters and Sengun. You would still have Brooks Bari Tari. Durant would open up JG’s game and he could have wreaked havoc when Durant is doubled. We will never know I supppse
Come on what a teammate. How could you not love having him as your teammate. always got your back, so disciplined. can go to war with this guy. even if you lose, it wont be because you're mentally weak - something young teams generally struggle with
In retrospect yeah. Especially if Jabari might've also meant the Rockets didn't need to send the 10th pick. Or replace it with a lesser future pick. Imagine if this team added a Cedric Coward or had the Pelicans unprotected 1st as ammunition at the trade deadline. I know it's 20/20 hindsight and at the time of the trade I would've hated that trade, but it does suck that every time Stone makes a move it's one of those "make total sense on paper" moves but ends up being meh. Just once I'd like Stone to makea Rafer for Lowry type move that everyone goes WTF, and then in a year realize just he's actually playing 4D chess.
what is everyone's fascination about trading amen? reed I get sort of but he would be another brooks; someone who blows up on another team
I would trade Tari / DFS for Brooks today. This was a huge screw up by Stone. I mentioned losing Brooks was risky when it happened because he is a true glue guy, now hes dropping 40 point games, that is more than a glue guy. You add Brooks and a healthy FVV this is a contending team, without them you are a first or second round exit.
The BBS uses hindsight way too much. I’d love to have kept Dillon but the reasoning behind making the decision decisions we did at the time was sound, and I still have us as clear winners in the trade.
There are no clear Winners in this......while Dillon plays like an MVP now, KD is 37 years old but still a superstar. Also I don't think the future is that bright for Phoenix as Dillon is already 30......as KD would not be there in the future.
