It has become painfully obvious that Ben Skunkivan is batting above his weight after the lack of adjustments last game Looking at the offensive assistants around the league we are glaringly lacking. why don’t the good offensive coaches want to come here? Houston is a terrific city with great talent and arguably the greatest offensive player of all time in KD then it hit me, all the married maestros don’t want their women around Udoka. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Our only bet is finding one of these guys that bats the other way or is single.
I suspect that the Rockets will end up with a more prominent lead assistant coach to run the offense next year, if the Rockets don’t at least have a a solid playoff run.
I just don’t see how the dynamics would work. I can’t see Ime giving up his bench coaching role. His rotations are a bigger issue than his offensive acumen. Maybe the offensive guy can come up with a better scheme or strategy, but it would be up to Ime to implement it in real time. I think we will still have some roster construction issues to overcome even if we can get an offensive assistant.
There are no guarantees, but coaches do bring on lead assistants to run one side of the court. Kerr and D'Antoni both eventually did it -- and there are others.
I’m still an Ime guy but I’ll admit that this season has tested my faith. The lack of offensive creativity can’t be denied, but I do believe in the defense first approach. It’s complicated because I think the roster is fundamentally unbalanced. And yet, you know that Ime probably pushed signings like DFS, and passing over more guard depth. One thing someone pointed out is that none of our assistants have head coaching experience. It’s a pretty green bench. I’d like to see a more experienced offense oriented assistant join the crew. I do worry that Ime’s ego and stubbornness could make that dynamic a challenging situation though. not that I want to fire Ime. Im a results oriented person and Ime’s results the last two seasons have been very good. But I was surprised about the premature extension. Ime’s not going anywhere so the best we can do is get him some more seasoned support on the sideline. Hope he’s mature enough to be open to that.
What is Will Weaver doing? One guy from the ridiculous Silas era we should never have let go. #bringhimback
what would any other coach do? No one on this site has explained to me clearly what other coaches wouid do that’s different with this exact roster. In my opinion Udoka saw this gig as a bounce-back opportunity after the scandal. Im not sure if this was his ideal team to coach. Regardless it’s his team now. I just think this roster is very limited in skill and fit. The pieces don’t exactly fit. I think he’s done a pretty good job. The rotations are frustrating at times but not end all be all for me.
If 1 adjustment in the 2nd half causes your entire offense to collapse that’s not having enough talent
