It’s both. Ime could’ve developed reed as a starting PG last season instead of making a trash playoff run but nope.
He had a bad second half after a decent coach adjusted his whole defense to stop him. His ts% for the year is 57.2. which is slightly above average for a pg. Amen wasnt the issue last night, Ime's puke worthy rotations were.
They literally didn’t even guard him and just allowed Wemby to play free safety. You aren’t going to be very successful if you’re allowing that guy to roam freely.
Except for the Spurs, no other team has a unicorn one-man zone defense. There are plenty of counters to the Wemby one-man zone defense. Ime is usually a bit slow to figure them out, but he does eventually. The Rockets also need to add shooters to make it easier on the coaching staff.
he was playing pre-safety primarily in the lane. if you're suppsedly good outside shooters could shoot. It wouldn't have worked. laying this defeat on Amen's shooting is disingeneous at th very least.
oh, he can see it .... he just doesn't have much for options. I've said many times they need to rip the band aid off and force feed Reed and just live with his mistakes and hope he's ready by playoff time.
This is such a weird take / jumping to conclusions. We have no evidence whatsoever that Amen has a poor work ethic, and plenty of evidence to the contrary via pre-draft reporting, things his teammates have said, etc. And if you want to take his poor jump shooting as evidence, what about his huge improvement on free throw percentage? Are you just throwing that out?
TS% is only a measure of Amen's scoring. Having Amen's man not guard him should help Amen score more efficiently. The exchange is letting Amen score, but having a man in the paint is making it difficult for the other Rockets to score. This isn't something new the Spurs cooked up. Teams have been doing this for a while. The Spurs just have Wemby doing it instead of a smaller player. The only counter Ime has had for this is to put the ball in Amen's hands trying to force his man to guard him. Wemby just doesn't have to be far from the basket to guard Amen.
BTW, the Spurs were exposed when they lost to the worst team in the Western Conference by 16 points five days ago. (it's the NBA, and overreaction is common)
Ime's lack of adjustments, reeds poor defense and poor shooting along with Scrubari costed us a win. Its the same story every game
It’s tough to get an open shot from 3 when he is doing that. The other defenders know the lane is covered and all they have to do is defend the 3 point line. Further, Sengun was also in the game and he’s also not a threat from 3 so you only have to worry about three guys. I turned the game off with 3 min to go but I didn’t see many wide open looks from 3 like there was in the first quarter.
And you would be wrong, because Reed won't be ready by playoff time if ever. Did you not see how he was being abused last night? You can triple that man-handling in the playoffs. Reed is 2 years away from having an Nba body.
All great points! Ive been saying the same things. We have NO 3pt threats outside of KD. Jabari and Reed are inconsistent. And when Reed is on the court he has to score, if not he's totally ineffective
No, the right deal was made - Jalen had to go. Good luck to him. Now Dillon on the other hand ... I wouldn't mind keeping around.
Good shooters don't pull Amen's man out. Other players played bad. Reed sucked. Pulling Reed out of the game didn't change that Wemby was in the paint every play. Don't deflect. It is not disingenuous that the Spurs not guarding Amen allowed them to place the best rim protector in the paint.
I mean the pelicans are unironically more talented than us and would whoop us in a 7 game series if they didn’t tank.
It wasn’t just Wemby they didn’t same with Kornet. I can’t believe Amen didn’t even try to shoot 1 three. No one was in 10 feet of him.
