We are so done come playoff time. Everyone now will just copy what the Spurs did yesterday and leave Amen open outside the lane to harass KD. Ime has no clue how to solve it. That’s why I was never high on Amen and he and Sengun should have been the ones sent to the Suns rather than Jalen and Dillon!!
that’s always been the playbook on Amen, so Idk why last night would be the time he got exposed…defending him by ignoring him wasn’t some new revelation Spurs are just one of the teams that decided to do it to that degree on a random Wednesday in the regular season, but that would’ve been the default defense on him in a playoff series a lot of non-shooters can survive in the regular season because teams don’t go all in on defensive schemes…they do in the postseason tho so yeah, in the playoffs, Amen will get ignored and destroy spacing…he might get 20 points in the process, but he would have made life 5x more difficult for everyone else on offense
I disagree. We saw last year he had 3 very efficient games. He just needs to drive and get fouled. And The worst Coach in the league bald pervert udoka needs to him use a ball screener
Amen is a good enough passer and athlete to probe the defense and find the open man if defenses ignore him on the perimeter in order to crowd the paint. But you do need shooters around him who are actually hitting shots. Like, more than just KD, and ideally all four of his teammates. Problem is too often he's been playing with 1-2 other non-shooters, and when guys like Jabari and Reed are having off nights, it's even worse.
I literally said in my post that Amen might score 20 points while being ignored, and then you tell me he had 3 very efficient games last year… teams will gladly allow Amen to score twos while ignoring him and destroying our spacing Spurs didn’t even shoot well at all from deep, and we still couldn’t keep up with them offensively…we scored 37 points in the 2nd half Amen had 25 points for the game, and he was still killing us…
Amen and Sengun is currently not a good mix. This is why the Rockets sent staff to Turkey to work with Sengun on his 3pt shot during the Summer. He hit four 3pt shots in the first game against OKC and we haven't seen that performance since. Until we see Sengun BROADEN his game and stop hanging around the basket, thats what were going to see in the playoffs.
Amens 25 came on 50 TS. He was far from the issue tonight. And that second half when he had to take middies killed his efficiency. Why are you ignoring Sengun getting absolutely shut down by Castle? There were two times we used Amen as a screener and they both resulted in good looks. Ime should have done that, but nope.
I’ve been saying this for a while now. People have been blaming Ime but Amen is the reason for Amen’s limitations. Amen clearly hasn’t put in the work necessary to improve. Andre Drummond is shooting 36% from 3 this year. Amen is down around 20%. That’s due to piss poor work ethic and lack of focus. It’s embarrassing and Amen should be ashamed of himself. A professional athlete can’t mad wide open jumpers. Hell, I can give you 20% and I’m short and slow.
Glad I didnt stay up and finish this one, but Im not surprised at any of the stuff that transpired from any of these players. I just dont see a world in todays NBA where Sengun and Amen can be two of your main players on a championship level team. I really dont think Amen can be the main ball handler. Even if he's surrounded by 4 shooters he's not as big as Giannis. You can sag a big off of him and just dare him to finish over a big at the rim. He likely will more often than not, but as an opposing team Id take my chances and live with him going at a big all game taking 2's.
Amen was exposed for having a sh*t coach that doesn't know how to adjust. Was Wemby exposed in the first half when he was shutdown? Was the whole Spurs team exposed when Amen was destroying them in the first half? Did Amen tell Jabari and Reed to completely disappear? Why did Castle, a PG that cant shoot, absolutely destroy us.
He is fool's gold. He's not any better than Ausar, but the Pistons bring him off the bench, whereas here Amen gets unlimited minutes, shots, and freedom. Honestly I'd rather have Stephon Castle.
This is on the coaching staff. Amen shouldn't be running point unless it's a fast break opportunity. He's getting his stats but at the expense of team success. I don't understand why he was never taught how to shoot. The speed, quickness and athleticism was always going to be there. His dad must have been confused and thought the twins were going run track, not become NBA players. If he's going to be wide open like that he has to shoot. I'd rather him miss than to keep dribbling around in circles looking stupid. In game reps is the only way he's going to get better. Edit: Sengun also needs to mix his game up more and work on his jump shot to help with spacing.
I know- he wasn’t efficient this game. That was my point. This was identical to game 3 vs GSW last season.
You know im ok seeing him airball 3’s at this point. But seeing him air ball 2’s?? Got me thinking he can go in the right trade scenario for Giannis... If it saves us draft picks.
