Even a combo guard like White, Sexton or Simons can help the Rockets deal with ball pressure or beat presses/traps because they possess enough ball-handling skills. Then, when Sengun, Durant or Thompson sit, you have another ball handler on the court. I also don’t see why White can’t start next to Thompson, Sengun and Durant. If Reed Sheppard can start next to them, he certainly can. Is acquiring a player like White, Sexton or Simons a perfect solution? No. But, that doesn’t exist in this trade market. Basically, I view Coby White, Collin Sexton or Anfernee Simons as a more consistent version of Reed Sheppard. That type of player would help this Rockets’ team as a rental at the right price.
The value right now is probably at its lowest. Which is why I don't think they will trade it. Suns will not get any better so they will either be the same or worse next year.
I'm not against acquiring a player like White at the right price. As a bench scorer surrounded by defenders he'd be a good fit, because he can score while our stars are resting. I just don't think he's going to improve our defense via his offense. You can't score your way to a better defense. It didn't work for KD in Brooklyn and Phoenix when he was surrounded by HOF ballhandlers and shooters. It's not going to work here with Coby White of all people. Our current starting lineup is Amen/Tari/KD/Bari/Sengun, not Reed. Reed has started 4 games all season and Tari 10 despite Tari being out all year with injury. You're saying that replacing Tari or Jabari with Coby White is going to make our defense better. I disagree.
Depends if we can low ball them. Fred also has a player option as well. So if he opts out most likely
probably not. There’s more cap space teams this offseason. And right now we’ve got $20 mil of dead space on our books between Adams and Capela. Yay double big
Ok, but I would prefer he not make a deal than give up a first or Tari for Coby White. That’s basically him being a good GM.
No, I get it. I'm just preparing myself for the nothing-burger trade deadline (but something in me says they'll do something, whatever that might be.)
I never said I would start Coby White over either Tari Eason or Jabari Smith Jr. What I said is Coby White could start alongside Durant, Thompson and Sengun, if necessary. Just like Reed Sheppard could start for the Rockets if either Eason or Smith Jr. missed time. Also, reducing live-ball turnovers can improve team defense by minimizing opponents’ transition opportunities and fast-break points. Doing so also helps team defense by giving opponents fewer possessions to score. Adding another capable ball handler to the rotation would help the Rockets avoid some turnovers, which gives their opponents fewer possessions and likely fewer transition opportunities.
If one of our firsts is all it takes to get White then we should do it. How many players picked 20s-30s even outlive their rookie contracts? We're not in the stage to be taking shots on Usman Garubas.
I get frustrated with that, too. He might surprise us in the year that it looks like they have the least flexibility. Keeping my fingers crossed.
He sucks as a GM. Trade should have already been completed for Tari. Newsflash….Tari sucks on offense, has a very low bball iq and is hugely injury prone and wants 20+ million or he walks this offseason. WHAT IS IT THAT MAKES YOU THINK WE SHOULD HOLD ONTO THIS GUY and pass up a 20 ppg 6’5” legit point guard???????????
If it's not Eason included, I think it's more than likely to be Adams. So that money would be off the books then
I think we have a serious center problem and that’s what I want them to fix before the deadline. But if we can move off Steveo and get Coby White that would be great. I just can’t see us being able to resign both he and Tari, and I’d want to be confident that Ime could get Coby to actually play defense.
I assume he’s got a good grasp on the situation. I think he knows whether they will be “losing Tari for nothing” and whether that is good or bad for the team. Because he could easily trade for Coby White and lose him for nothing, too.
