Seriously though… the guy did take more shots than anyone on the Pistons roster and was 2nd to KD I believe in shots taken. Like the guy does obviously have the green like and encouragement from the coaches on offense.
Tari was out, that’s why. There is literally no other scoring from the bench, distributing 20 shots from the bench is not an eyesore we had no bench scoring last game given reeds shooting ability he should be getting 15 shots a game minimum. The issue is that he’s a rhythm player, he becomes inconsistent with erratic and inconsistent minutes. You see that time and time again, play him enough and he will take the team home and convert
Meh, not sure that is totally accurate give he had 14 shots against the 76ers (with Eason and DFS) and 15 shots last night.
25 minutes per game means hate? Define hate. If he hated him he wouldn’t be playing at all. Why would a coach hate a player to the detriment of the team? What evidence besides your own feelings do you have to support this accusation?
It’s not hate lol but I do agree he doesn’t use Capela as much as he should and lineups with capela are usually plus. I like the lineups with capela and sheppard. They have some chemistry there with lobs.
i really like the lineups with reed capela durant with DFS and Tari or Smith. Those lineups play excellent defense, share the ball, and get out on the break
Ime encourages Reed to shoot. He doesn't care if he misses or hits. That's why sometimes he takes him out even when he's hot and leaves him in even when he's cold. Ime's management of Reed is totally about defense.
When they say hate they mean he is treated differently compared to the others. And honestly I think it's true, though I don't think it's because he hates Reed specifically, I think he is more critical of younger unproven players. I think Ime thinks he's helping them by punishing them (pulling them from games) for making mistakes, and ultimately it will make them better. Some call it hard coaching. But that's why people think he "hates" Reed, because if you look at it in a vacuum, Reed is treated differently than the other players. Reed will get benched for making a mistake that other players would not be benched for.
I don’t know if that’s true at all. There needs to be specific examples of this happening. This narrative is troubling because it assumes Sheppard is an established player with consistent high level performances. He isn’t. He makes a lot of mistakes on both ends despite the ability to shoot the three pointer. Fans here on one hand preach earning playing time but at the same time support entitlement with this player for whatever reason. Other players don’t even get to play. Or if they play they go long periods of inactivity (capela, tate, holliday, JD). Even okogie has been pulled from lineups or benched. Udoka treated JG this way as well. How many people complained then that are complaining now? point is coaches have their reasons. They know their players better than any of you. To sit here and assume and cry foul play without evidence is foolish and a waste of time. Is Sheppard feeling targeted? He compliments coaching staff very often. Im sure he doesn’t need you all to stand up for him on an issue that’s nonexistent
People keep parroting this “D wins championships!!!” BS when we lost to a 7th seed because they had a generational offensive player who was barely even a meh defender during his prime.
Nobody making 10m a year needs a bunch of basement dwelling, beer guzzling boys to defend them. I think 25 mins is about right, but I do wish Ime would be more consistent with Reed’s rotation. Pulling him out when he is hot to make a point seems a bit overdone. We need Reed to be a consistent contributor to be successful this year. I hope he gets more of a steady job going forward.
That’s a fair assessment. All the accusatory stuff of hate and unfair is just stupid in the absence of more information and evidence.
From the way you guys are talking I expected to see him averaging minutes in the teens. He's averaging 25 minutes a game. That's more than 2 complete quarters. For a 21 year old midget coming off the bench I think that's pretty good. I definitely think it was a mistake sitting him last year. You have to play through mistakes and not let it hurt your confidence. And we all know he makes some stupid turnovers.
Ime doesn't understand we need Reed to take as many 3's as he can at above league average efficiency. He needs to be out there for up to 10 3PA per game - that will make a significant enough impact on our offense to negate any defensive issues. This team is not even an average shooting team when taking an average number of 3's. I bet he can make 38% of 10-12 attempts which is around 12.5 points (excluding transition, drives, middies and assists). That's a big part of how you hide a bad defender - not just placing them on less talented players on defense, but also having them do a lot more of what they're good at doing. It's a net rating game at the end of the day. In the context of our team, there's nothing we need more than shooting. We'll take as much as he can give us at a decent %. To be honest, even when he's not making his 3's, the attention he draws outside the paint makes life so much easier for everyone else.
