Isn't Senga the dude that gave up 7 ERs in 5 innings (over 2 starts or so) in the post season? I know he was coming off an injury but he seems to be injured a lot.

On second thought he'd fit right in ;)

What's your gut feeling, will we ultimately get a deal done with the Red Sox?

First, small sample size. Second, in the 2024 season, Senga made one regular season start on July 26, then returned to pitch October 5, 13 and 20. He did allow seven earned runs in five innings, but you can’t take anything away from his 2024 season when he pitched 12 1/3 innings.

In 2023, he posted a 2.98 ERA/1.22 whip (202 K’s in 166 innings). Last year, he had a 3.02 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP with 109 K’s in 113 innings. He was demoted to AAA because he posted an ERA over 6 for a stretch of eight or nine starts after returning from a strained hamstring and the Mets were trying anything to keep their playoff hopes alive. Senga is a good pitcher, and his forkball is a plus pitch. At $15 million each of the next two seasons, he’s quite affordable, too.

Senga is a pretty good fit for the Astros. Has SP2 potential and injury risk. We have enough SP4 and 5 depth to cover for his injury risk, but we lack SP arms that have his upside.

Dana don't budge on Paredes. Red Sox and their fans seem eager to fleece us. Now I'm seeing their fans bringing up Pena in any trade talks for Duran or Abreu. It's getting out of hand.

I have seen folks talk about how this roster likely means more LF for Yordan. I hope we don’t do that. If this is our roster, I think the Astros have to prioritize:

    1. Yordans health - No more than 1/3 of games (50 out of 150) in LF. And the 50 games in LF should be mostly Daikin park. I don’t care about the “log jam” in the infield. We know what an injury marred season from Yordan does to the offense. We cannot have it. Period.

    2. Paredes health - if he can play a not horrible 2B, then let him play there. If that’s an injury risk, the mitigate it by giving him games some games at 3B when Correa rest, and also can have Paredes at 3B, Correa at SS, Pena at 2B. Or Correa at 2B and Pena at SS. I see no reason why you can’t have that configuration for 10-20 games this season. Paredes can have 50 DH games. In other words, when Yordan is in LF, Paredes is DH. A healthy Paredes and a healthy Yordan is a great foundation for the offense. We have to have it.

    3. Altuve’s rest. 130-135 games this year, no more. Play Altuve at 2B or LF, however he needs to be deployed to keep Yordan off the field. Sorry, little to no DH for Altuve. But that’s ok because he will get more rest games. When Yordan is in LF (50 games), Altuve is at 2B and Paredes is DH. When Yordan is DH (100 games), Altuve plays LF, and Paredes is at 2B or 3B. I don’t think we want Paredes running or diving after fly balls in the outfield.

If management thinks that this roster compels us to play Yordan a lot of LF, then just trade Paredes for Wilyer Abreu. I would really like to keep Paredes bat and approach in the lineup, but I place a greater priority in getting and keeping healthy, MVP level production from Yordan in the lineup.

I wonder if the paredes at 2b is posturing to help us trade him.

In the at case, Brown should say Meyers will get reps at catcher and as a starting pitcher this year.

If Altuve gets the majority of reps at 2B, plus Matthews, Allen, and Paredes get reps at 2B, that squeezes Paredes for playing time significantly.

Espada confirms Paredes’ positions: 3B, 2B, 1B, DH

At the same time, he confirms Altuve is at 2B most games and Alvarez is at DH most games.

    Kind of forcing Dana’s hand?

Espada is a moron and Brown needs to fix the problem. The Astros clubhouse is a mess because you have like 8 players that play the same 4 positions and one of the shittiest OFs in baseball.

I'd imagine if Matthews makes the opening day roster, Allen wouldn't but we'll see.

Would have been more noteworthy if he said "eh, we're not interested in trying to improve the team at this point".

How do the Astros keep Yordan from hurting himself while running the bases?

Will wait for Ohtani to have an injury base running... then the league makes a rule that you can have somebody else run for him, but he still gets to be in the game...

Many moons ago my older son took batting lessons from Gerald. Couldn’t be a nicer guy.

Problem is, a lefty bat isn't going to save this team this year. They have too many vets on the field and not enough on the bench.

The Astros have the starting lineup to compete but they need vet guys that can spell them out (like Beltran was) and/or some quality vet SPs. JV fits that bill and to a degree Christian Vazquez at catcher.

This team is too young when it comes to slots just being filled and pitching wise to know what to do in a post season series (let alone get back to the post season).
