Has Udoka written all over it. Making just $2.3M, will be a free agent

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6993002/2026/01/23/nba-trade-rumors-karl-anthony-towns-knicks/

“League and team sources say the Kings continue to draw serious interest in veteran guard Keon Ellis, with approximately 10 teams in pursuit of the 26-year-old. A deal is almost certain to go down before the Feb. 5 deadline, if not much sooner. The Kings are seeking a late first-round pick in the deal, those sources said.”

We need Monk not Ellis. Both are rentals.

What a bummer ;( but thank you for this analysis. I guess that Stone is pretty limited..
Too bad he rushed to close all of the deals with fvv, Adams, dfs and Okagie on the amounts he did, without providing for some room for another guard. Also - big fail by our medical staff that they couldn’t estimate how bad DFS injury is..
What started as a solid summer turns out to be one of the worst. Seriously, no one thought that relying just on fred and reed as our back-court without additional options will be risky?

the one thing missing from Corrosion’s analysis is the availability of Adams as a trade candidates. Both DFS and/or Adams would require draft capital to be added for a significant difference maker, but it should be considered if we want to compete this year. I’ve already outlined several trades that would work for Monk even with our cap constraints. The best I think is Adams/DFS 27 Phoenix pick for Monk/Saric. Monk is a 1 year rental, but I think he would be an extendable contract and Saric would allow us to rest Sengun for a week or two to nurse his injury. Monk is a good fit for this team long term, Adams is old and injury prone.

Monk’s contract will put us the 2nd apron. But if Tilman is ok with paying for it then pull the trigger.

Financially speaking by far the worst deal is the FVV one. That was the final contract and one that essentially locked the roster in place with nearly zero financial flexibility. For instance, if they had just structured FVV's deal so be something like a 3yr/$65mil deal including a player option for the 3rd year, the Rockets would be able to do all the moves above. Mind you, that is actually a lot more than the biggest FA signing that changed teams last year, which was NAW for 4yr/$62mil. So it's not like the Rockets would've cheaped out with that money. But Stone was so certain that the current roster would compete that he didn't even give himself an out in case something bad happened. So yeah, if the Rockets miss their window this year, it's 100% on Stone for being so overconfident.

Adams and DFS have negative value, at least for now. Both unable to contribute and have at least two years left on their deals.

You really think that poo platter is going to get you a useful player, much less two of them when paired with what is likely a pick outside of the lottery?

Scott Perry would laugh .... Just because the numbers add up, doesn't mean the other guy says yes.

And then there's each of them passing a physical before the trade is approved - Adams won't pass.

DFS would not even pass with flying colors, I doubt he is fully 100% yet.

True. I also thought that another year for a little less per year for Fred’s contract could have been a much better solution. I mean with a 37 yo kd, the window is for these 2 years. You need to have any free $ you may find. 60-65m$ for 3 years would have give us much more flexibility. We should have also lower Adams by ~1m$ pa considering that he didn’t really fully recovered from his last injury.

Sounds like a good deal. I’m not sure that Suns 27 pick would be much high considering how they’re getting along this season so it’s a fair price ti pay. Monk actually is a better fit than Grimes and more experienced. If he can only be in good terms with Ime so and won’t get dry out like Reed, he’ll make a huge improvement for us.

Why would anyone want to trade for Adams knowing that he's out for the season and probably won't be 100% when next season starts.

because he’s good and on a good contract the next 2 yrs, and will be healthy to start next season.

We spent four 2nd round pick on a much more injured adams.

No it won’t. At least not this year. If you are trading Adams and Tari it is better than a wash. I don’t think he gets much more than the MLE as an extension.

As we know last trade deadline, anything and anyone can be traded.

I wonder what the odds are on Sengun and more being shipped out for possibly Giannis. It always seems like Udoka would prefer a defensive minded Center.

Sac has no use for Monk. Tari and Adams gets it done. Tari is expiring as well, so yes I think the 27 Phoenix pick gets it done. Adams contract was foolish, but for a tanking team he is just trade bait next year. I think you are overestimating Monk’s value to most teams. All that being said, the Rockets aren’t’ going to do sh*t unless it’s signing a buyout candidate. Ime is running things and he has dreams of double bigs and FVV next year. The Rockets are f*cked this year and next if Ime is still running things.

It probably was always going to be a buyout candidate. Having said that, we’re probably a legit destination for any guards.

Giannis plays point guard/forward not center and said he has no desire to play center. If we trade Sengun it needs to be for a center that can shoot 3’s and defend the paint. Giannis is a terrible fit with Amen or Sengun. I think I’ll open a trade Sengun thread for people to brainstorm, but it’s just for fun. Amen, Sengun, and Durant are not going anywhere. Adebayo is about the only candidate to even consider.

I read somewhere that he’s shooting around 45% from 3 this year. That’s pretty impressive. The Rockets could use another shooter on the team.

Is that not exactly what the Rockets did when they traded for Adams?
