Why is this a problem if we're winning the minutes though? Like if Reed comes into the game for 8 minutes, and they attack him over and over on defense, targeting him relentlessly, who cares? If they score 12 points but we score 15, what's the problem? I get that you (and Ime) think he's bad on defense, but even if he's getting attacked, shouldn't we keep him in if we're winning those minutes? Isn't the bottom line that we're outscoring them while they're doing this?

At the start of the season, he didnt have DFS and with 37yr old KD, Sengun, Reed, Adams and Tari in and out of the lineup in your top 7 rotation, what choice did he have?

Last yrs team was younger and Reed was further down the rotation, so he had players who where better defensively on the wings. But if you look at the Rockets now, they do not have a defensive identity nor any identity.....THEY ARE JUST PLAYING BASKETBALL.

They need to make a trade!

Very hard to trade at the moment, so, they need to define roles differently.

This is all an identity problem and Ime leaning in the wrong direction.

We aren't the same D first team as last year, which BTW FAILED in the playoffs......so we add KD and we get worse, because we go all in on KD instead of adding him to an already explosive team as an option, Ime made him THE OPTION at 37, and he is bad at that. Teams will guard KD 1v1 for the first 3 quarters and let him get comfortable hitting that midrange....then they blitz him in the 4th and he turns it over more often than makes a play, he is bad at being the initiator and those turnovers lead to easy baskets for the other team.

What Ime should be doing is running the offense in winning time through Sengun on the LOW block, surround him with 3pt shooters and cutters and watch this team take off......that is so simple......go look at how the Rockets played with Hakeem for a small look at how we should be playing now.

And, BTW a turnover on the low block is easily stopped in transition......

Ime, is 100% of the problem, a GREAT or GOOD coach puts players in positions of success Ime is causing the failure.

Good point but DEFENSE win games! Last night was a perfect example. The Rockets were up by 7pts and lost the game DEFENSIVELY.

Offense comes and goes but if you can prevent the other team from scoring, you are going to win way more than you lose.

Hindsight is 20/20 but I would prefer to have last yrs team over this yrs team. They had an IDENTITY. Some times ME, sometimes YOU, always US. It sound corny as hell but it was about defense and whoever scored.

This year's team is just playing basketball through 37yr old KD.

However one adjustment I did see them make last night that I absolutely LOVE! They let Reed and Amen bring the ball up, which guards are suppose to do, then give it to KD and Sengun. It lessoned the turnovers....I NEVER LIKE SENGUN AND KD BRINGING THE BALL UP COURT

the sheer insanity of this can’t be understated. This is a case study into how Udoka and his low intelligence supporters think

this guy brought up Reed starting numbers. He was given the objective data, and then said the sample size is too small and can’t be used. Generally, the truth is based on objective measures not your feely eye test which bleeds for Udoka.

the first sign that you are incompetent should be when your eye test and the support of it routinely leads to losses

Do you think the score is based off your eye test too? What about the points scored? The points given up?

What you literally described was your feelings and subjective view dictating the game. Anything but the truth. the rockets outscored their opponent and gave up less points when Reed was on the floor. That consistently and expectedly changed when he was taken out. The score reversed, again expectedly. This trend has been going on for 90+% of the season and a simple statistical T-test attributes the probability of this happening just to chance (aka your feelings again) as being <0.00001.

Now again, we all know you suffer from low intelligence like Udoka so let me explain it.

Nobody is saying Reed is Bruce Bowen. The numbers and every piece of objective data indicate reeds defensive liabilities are insanely overblown.

ok now we’ve established a clear cut and dry points take , points given up…the most basic and OBJECTIVE view of a basketball game. Does the eye test back it up? Well we lose when we don’t play him and we win when we do.

congrats on being one of the rare individual self proclaiming that you are going for the truth but want to diregard every objective measure.

This forum really isn’t for you, if you want to go solely off you eye test go journal in your diary

Defense does not win games. Outscoring the opponent wins game. That's the most basic rule of the game. If you score more than your opponent does, you win.

Yeah I'm still not following. Maybe we just see the game differently, but why does it matter where the points come from? Why did we lose it defensively? What if Reed was in the game and we made an extra 3? What if we allowed 4 more points but also scored 5 more points? The defense gets worse but the offense gets better, so we still win in regulation? I don't see why you have to pick one or the other, I don't think it's defense or offense, it's both. It's about the net result for me.

You're on the right track! But I think you curved and went the wrong way. That team last yr didnt lose because of defense, it lost because Jalen was SHELL SHOCKED.

And with that being said, I was the one who was saying DO NOT TRADE Jalen. As bad as he played in his first Playoff series, you do not trade him at this point. Especially, since he was still developing. A player like that, you pair him with a KD.

Jalen, Amen and KD would have been a formidable wing tandem. Other than Amen, we have no one who can get to the basket and KD playing 37 mins a game can only last so long. And if you notice, the Rockets have become easier to guard, most of their shots are contested. Nothing they do on offense is easy!

This is why I say, if anything, they need another scorer!

I'm assuming you hit the wrong key and meant to hit "4" instead of "3".

Fred is a lot like the guys that JVG wanted, they are limited, but they know what to do and make coaching very easy.

Guys like JVG, Thibs, Larry Brown and Ime love these players... there is no teaching involved.

Any and every coach will tell you that defense win games! In baseball, basketball and football. Sure, you have to outscore your opponent but you win more than you lose by playing consistent defense.

Look at OKC, they are hanging their hat on DEFENSE

Another flat out stupid statement from someone that doesn’t understand the fundamentals of basketball

like the majority of your posts have you put any thought into it? If you can’t score in a league where better offense always trumps better defense. In the hyperbole of this can no points scored ever win even if you hold your opponent to 0 points?

Did Bruce Bowen’s or GP’s defense ever carry even a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio/value when comparing to an offensive player? Would any GM or executive in the league value offense at less 5x the level of comparable D? (Think igoudala value vs curry)

defense can win championships when combined with a decent offense. OKC has one of if not the best offense in the league

I think you are lacking in fundamentals needed to carry on a discussion here. You seem to be making broad stroke false statements left and right when empirical data keeps proving you wrong

Or maybe just a Willis Reed moment?
Didn't someone post in the GARM they were at a game and FVV was still limping considerably (which seems like it should be the case, given his injury).

Ime is jealous, he was always terrible on offense, can't stand to see someone so gifted on offense....

    ;)

Or, he just sucks as a coach.

The Rockets were strictly a DEFENSIVE team last yr and they were 2nd in the West.

This yr, they're less of a defensive team without an identity and a worse record.

    Explain?

We all loved our last year team, but getting kicked-out at the 1st round with HCA, and again to no less than the f*****g Warriors - you just can’t let this slide and not making any changes. Two aspects were clear -
    1. JG is not a superstar material, and:
    2. Ime is an AWFUL coach when it comes to running normal offense, and he should have a good offensive-oriented assistant, or we just fire him.
Eventually we traded Green for KD, put out trust in KD and Ime, and, unfortunately, lost Fred and DFS (who should be the DB replacement) to injuries. If they both were healthy, I’m sure we would have 5-8 more wins by now.
Stone definitely made mistake where he spent too much money on re-signings and didn’t had enough for another legitimate guard on our roster. If we had one, we could be by now, despite Fred’s injury, with additional 3-4 wins as some of our offense last quarter collapses could be prevented .

Every team ramps up their defense in the playoffs because defense is more about effort and scheme than personnel (although it is a factor). We lost in the first round last year because we relied on effort/defense to win games all season but couldn't score when everyone else decided to play hard. We need to figure out how to integrate Reed and his offensive spark before the playoffs or we aren't going anywhere with our predictable, plodding crunch time offense.

Ok. I like Ime as culture setter but man last night.... Ime was the reason we lost that game. Who in their right mind sits the guy that brings you back into the game in the 4th quarter with massive momentum shift????

Well, one thing for sure, he pretty much sucked as a player.....cool thing Pop took him under his wing.

He was worse than Bruce Bowen and Matt Bonner and I can recall that I only knew him bc Ime was such a rare name....

You know they say the game is more about the players and less about the coach.

When the players decide to play better DEFENSIVELY, the offense becomes so much easier.

Just go back and watch the 4th Qtr of the San Antonio game and the last 5 mins of last night's game.
