Speaking of which ... from the I'll Believe it When I See It Files (there seems to be a lot of that in EV news lately...lol) :

Ford enters race to offer eyes-off driving tech, starting with $30,000 EV in 2028

Think of how much worse Teslas software is compared to this, since it's not even good enough for a public launch yet, while Waymo is

Yeah because there's a person in the driver's seat to disengage when needed.

You have dodged the question multiple times. If Tesla software is so good, why hasn't Elon released robotaxi service nationwide? You can't name a single "regulation" that Tesla needs to pass, that Waymo hasn't passed a year ago.

    What's stopping Elon?

Right. When one company already operates driverless vehicles, and you can't operate in that same city without a safety driver, it means your software is not good enough (at least not yet). that's just the simple truth.

Elon admits that Tesla is not ready for unsupervised driving
Elon posted on X: "Roughly 10B miles of training data is needed to achieve safe unsupervised self-driving. Reality has a super long tail of complexity"
    https://electrek.co/2026/01/08/elon...needs-10-billion-miles-safe-unsupervised-fsd/

Maybe homers like @Space Ghost can finally accept that Tesla is far behind the leaders in this space. One company is already doing rides, and expanding. The other company (Tesla) is still realizing that it's "harder than expected".

I'm going to have to check out Chinese hip-hop. Did anybody check to see if the last clip of the scooter being dragged had an occupant at the time of collision?

I'm going to hold off buying an EV until they have 5000 hp -- I don't want to waste money on a new car with 2 or 3000 hp when I can just wait a few years.

A 3,000-HP Chinese Electric Hypercar Just Showed Up in the US

The Miami-based owner showcased his BYD Yangwang U9 on social media, even demonstrating the EV’s ability to jump off the ground.

    Key Points
      • Chinese automakers remain absent from US due to geopolitical tensions and tariffs.
      • BYD Yangwang U9, an advanced electric hypercar, was showcased in Miami by Richard Skelhorn.
      • BYD leads global EV sales, focusing on markets like Europe while avoiding the US market.

    No Dealers, No Problem

Chinese automakers remain effectively absent from the U.S. market due to factors such as ongoing geopolitical tensions. For ultra-wealthy enthusiasts like Richard Skelhorn, however, those obstacles don’t pose much of a barrier. Skelhorn recently brought his BYD Yangwang U9 to Miami, Florida, even claiming that the electric hypercar marked its first-ever appearance on American soil.

Before dismissing the BYD Yangwang U9, it is worth noting that the electric hypercar has already built an impressive résumé on paper. The high-performance U9 Xtreme variant is reported to have achieved a claimed top speed of 496.22 km/h (308.33 mph), surpassing benchmark-setting hypercars such as the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. In addition, the same model is said to be the first production electric sports car to break the seven-minute barrier at the Nürburgring, recording a lap time of 6:59.157 – essentially making it the fastest of its kind.

A Tourist Visa for a Hypercar

According to Skelhorn, he purchased the U9 in August before registering the vehicle in Dubai. He described the Chinese-built EV as merely a “tourist,” explaining that it is required to leave the country after a year. He showcased the U9 on Instagram alongside another compelling EV, the Tesla Cybertruck.

Specs-wise, the BYD U9 Xtreme is equipped with four electric motors producing a combined 3,000 horsepower – roughly 900 horsepower more than the Rimac Nevera R, an all-electric hypercar developed within the same engineering group that oversees Bugatti. Vehicles like these help explain why traditional horsepower wars have become increasingly irrelevant today, though they still show what modern advancements are capable of achieving.

Driverless robotaxi with occupants now live. Time to move that goal post.

From Lemonade's own website, "Lemonade supports intermittent use of FSD"

I wonder if this is a promotional offering funded by Tesla than a disruption other insurers will follow.

There's a safety car following at all times. So all Elon did was take the safety monitor from the inside of the vehicle into another vehicle following it.

Also he just made the dumbass decision to remove autopilot from all new cars. He's forcing people to get FSD just for auto steering. He's making poor decisions and running the company into the ground

"That's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em"

Even a base Corolla has lane centering assist standard. This may increase FSD subscription take rate, but I'd be shocked if this doesn't hurt Tesla's sales numbers.

I also really hope this doesn't cause other car makers to go full bore on locking more things behind a subscription. It would be terrible if ends up being an iphone and 3.5mm jack situation.
