I will offer a suggestion that you approach this differently and try to win some people over to your taste in music rather than openly bashing people for what they like or don't like.. In pearl jam or stone temple pilots, the bands being discussed weren't to your taste and you let people know that. There were some participants in that thread that seldom (if ever) post in the two currently active Music threads which are Cover Songs that are Better Than the original and What Are You Listening To? The Pearl Jam and STP thread showed that there is/was interest in music that the Cover Songs and What Are You Listening To threads weren't serving. Some options for you are: Start a new Music thread that you are the driving force behind to keep it rolling. I have no idea if it will succeed. Decide to be relentless like Rashmon about this and post as much as possible in this thread with hopes of winning some people over to your taste in music. Over the years I have posted some performances that didn't get applause (Like) and you have to accept going into this that might happen to you as well. (Synthwave Music) Anyone here a Gunship fan? is an example of a music thread that went a while then slowed down. Rashmon seems to have given a Like in that thread, but had no posts. So don't take it personally that Rashmon doesn't get onboard with your taste in music.
I'm not sure if I've shared this before, but I generally don't "like" music videos here unless I've watched the entire video or am intimately familiar with the song(s) being shared and I really like them. Sometimes when I don't "like" something it's because I'm just not in the mood for that piece. Other times I'm not logged in and can't like a post. (And sometimes I come in here and have no idea WTF is going on.) The same rules apply to @Manny Ramirez 's albums. I often enjoy the artists he shares, but if I don't know that particular album well I generally don't "like" those posts. Now if I go out and research the album(s) and find them to my liking I will give them a like. The problem is, he shares more albums than I often have time to research. So FU, @Manny Ramirez !!! No, I'm only joking. It's good to see you back here posting. Things haven't felt right without you.
More indie rock: Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News Built to Spill - Keep it Like a Secret
not trying to bash anyone. i like the majority of songs posted and don't have a problem with other people's tastes here or anywhere else. also, i'm not interested in winning people over to what i like, i simply am astonished by the lack of enthusiasm for new music of any kind. to each his own. i'll stop posting here, sorry to offend.
Well to me new music is relative - I consider anything that I have never heard before as "new music", not just music that is coming out for the first time. I am listening to "Forever Again" by Eric's Trip - first time I have ever listened to this album. I haven't even heard of them until a couple of months ago. I have been really into indie rock and they were a band that was listed as underrated. For a while (couple of months ago), I was listening to Fela Kuti non-stop and then started listening to other Afro-Beat artists (trust me there aren't many). So that is all new music to me.
i love eric's trip. julie doiron's solo records are great as well. if you haven't already check out the collab with mount eerie called lost wisdom. i also enjoy discovering new to me music even if it is older. still there is so, so much great new stuff out there. music, like all art often captures the zeitgeist, it's a reflection of the times we live in.
I don't think anyone is offended. I'm not and have genuinely enjoyed some of the new music you've posted. No need to stop posting. Unless I'm familiar with a song or don't like the genre, I usually check out most every video that is posted. Even if it's a cursory listen for a few seconds. If it grabs me, I'll go down the rabbit-hole. If it's posted as a title only (Manny) or some odd format (Gary) I'm not going to dig too far. As an older person with deep musical roots, I know there is a ton of "old" music that younger folks may not have experienced or heard. My enjoyment with YouTube is uncovering performances that were lost in time but rescued on YouTube. I love finding obscure stuff from bands I love. I share them. It's only rock and roll...
I am an album guy - I like listening to albums all the way through - helps me develop more of an appreciation and understanding of what is going on. Sometimes, I will listen to an album that I had listened to before and catch something that I hadn't realized before. To me, that is the beauty of music.
as i said, i wasn't trying to bash anyone and was surprised at mango's response, so i addressed it. carry on folks, i have many outlets to talk about new music, it's just not something appreciated here and that is totally okay. i still don't fully understand it but that too is okay. peace.
I don't have any of us as being offended. It is that you have been frustrated for a while and I decided to present some paths that you could explore to try and increase interest in new music. The Hangout and similar non basketball subforums are addons to the underlying basketball sections that are the basis for the creation of all of this. So the result is a mixed bag on levels of participation in Music threads rather than a high level of intensity from many that might be expected on a web site that has Music as the foundation - focus. Roughly a month ago, what had a thread about music that he really likes. These tortured females have a strangle hold on my wallet, fellas A few of the groups - artists I recognized, but the majority were new to me. I did the research and posted it on Page 2. . Most are classified as belonging in variations of the Indie genre with the exception of Eva Cassidy. I was already onboard with Eva Cassidy and Wolf Alice with Pacifica being the only one of those new to me that I liked. I don't think that there will ever be an Official Census of those that post regularly in the Hangout, but I feel confident in saying that Rashmon and I would be classified as older than most. Speaking from personal experience with my parents and now living it myself, Older folks tend to resist change. I acknowledge that the paths for you on increasing interest and getting discussions about new music are going to be challenging. If you start a new thread dedicated to new music, you might have to do much of the work yourself to keep it active until it gets rolling. Since what you want to do doesn't fit in the Covers thread, then you will have to post regularly in this thread to standout from others (read Rashmon). I am not trying to be discourage you, just analyzing your situation in regards to promoting new music in the Hangout.
I have it as a fine line to walk in what to post when it comes to wanting or not wanting applause (Likes).. If one leans hard into getting Likes, then it is possible that no effort has been made to nudge people a bit beyond their Comfort Zones. If one goes totally experimental and hardly ever gets Likes, then there is a risk of developing a reputation of being Out of Step and people will just scroll past your future posts about Music. I probably have a reputation for posting Asian girl/women groups from various genres even though I try to temper how many that I post. I hardly ever get Likes for them, so not getting Likes for certain posts is Feedback even though nothing was said/written.
