I think the odds of a trade are bigger than 10% (I’d probably put it at about 30%), but I agree with your point. Big trades carry a lot of risk to GMs. It is safer for Dana Brown to keep Paredes than it is to trade him.
Unless they start playing Yordan in LF more (nit less like reported) then Correa, Walker, or Paredes are on the bench. And some combination of Sanchez, Dezenzo, or Cole starts in LF. Having Duran in LF while Correa, and Walker start every day trumps an All-Star sitting on the bench. I would much rather make Yordan the LF and Paredes the DH but since that isn't happening this team is better with Duran than it is with Paredes.
Paredes at 1b, 2b, 3b, Altuve/Alvarez/Denzenzo split time in LF. Altuve/Alvarez at DH. Altuve should get a lot of rest days. I don’t see a real issue getting all of them ample starts. We need to get a really great return to move Paredes in my opinion. Cole, Smith, Sanchez should get spot starts all over the outfield. Myers should be moved.
Maybe so. You guys know more about trade values than I do. I would just want to extract a heavy price for our second or third best hitter who is only 26. It might come down to whether the Astros believe they can extend him at a reasonable price.
It is going to take a lot more than Duran to get Paredes, at least it should. Extending him is exactly what the Astros should be doing.
True, but what else are we gonna talk about in an Astros forum. A lot of the appeal of sports are these type of discussions, at least for me.
Moves I’m hoping to see over the next 4-5 days: 1. Trade Paredes or Walker for a controllable LHH OF who can hit in the top 5 of a contending lineup. If they need to include Arrighetti and/or Bryan Abreu that’s ok too as long as they get good value. 2. Trade Meyers for a prospect that will rank in the top 8 of Houston’s system; trading him for a Comp Bal draft pick would be good too. 3. Add a backup C. Carlos Perez technically addressed this need but if they can afford Christian Vazquez he’d be better.
Duran posted a 7.2 war in 2024. I think most people think he is worth more. Paredes has a premium price tag because there is a shortage of available 3B players this season but the market for him is small. Only teams with short left fields.
I'm not sure I want to give up both Paredes and B. Abreu for Duran. Maybe if we get Bello back but that would probably be an overpay for the Red Sox.
I also think Duran is a great player and a good fit in houston. However I hate having to root for him. He’s such a dick hole
Romes comments in today’s podcast: He will be surprised if Houston doesn’t trade either Paredes or Walker this week. A deal with Boston is not “close”. Houston interested in Christian Vazquez. Houston is trying to trade Jake Meyers and Jesus Sanchez and there is at least some interest in both players. Lucas Spence and Joseph Sullivan could be called up this season if they play well; the Astros like both of them and they both are LHH. Houston plans to get Zach Cole everyday play this season.
Who is better Wilyer Abreu or Duran and why? Just looking at the numbers either would be a good fit for the Astros.
