Best defensive effort of the year. That was some high-level defense. Suffocating. WV was like, What is happening? Not fair!
Yep, same ole Kelvin Sampson. Runs his team to be better each month. Keep that injury bug off our backs and if he can pull off another Big XII title defense somehow he should be allowed to go straight to the Basketball Hall of Fame. I am trying to be patient and enjoy the growth of the team but it is hard know what they can achive.
I would say new norm as long as refs don't get carried away and biased against us with their whistles. It is nor easy to play 5 on 8.
I have been watching the teams ranked above UH play. Honestly, I think UH could beat them all. If they keep improving every game at the rate they are now, they might not lose again. I know that is unlikely, but possible. Their defense is stifling. When all their shooters are "on" I don't think they can be beat.
Tell me which games "all their shooters are 'on'"...my bookie may want to know. They can beat anyone by 20, they can also play a close game with anyone. One thing you can basically guarantee with a Sampson UH team is that they'll never be blown out.
The free throw disparity still pisses me off. At one point in the second half it was 16 attempts to 1 and was a big reason for AS cutting the lead in half. I’m not against them getting free throws. The defense is aggressive. But if you’re going to blow the whistle on one side, you have to call similar fouls on the other… Maybe Sampson needs to teach the players to jerk their heads back more often at the slightest touch when they drive to the basket.
In 18 games, the Coogs have attempted 287 FT on the season. Their opponents have attempted 352 (3.6 more per game) Stats from the the UH website https://uhcougars.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2025-26
Tell me which games "all their shooters are 'on'". This game @Buck Turgidson might have been the game you and your bookie might have been looking forward to. Sorry I was not able to tell you about it ahead of time. It was a fun game to watch however.
I have witnessed (I think) all of the Coogs games this season. They are improving at an exponential rate. If this continues with no injuries, they will go into the national tournament as a probable winner. When they shoot well, they are almost impossible to outscore. The upcoming Arizona game will tell a lot. They have looked scary in their last several games.
What I'm seeing is the Coogs are reaching the expected defensive level combined with offense talent like they've never had before under Coach Sampson
