Always a good idea to pick a fight with people who come from a line of berserkers. Did nobody watch The 13th Warrior?

They fell in line - they historically do because they are more authoritarian.

I can’t decide if JD Vance and his weird love of a monarch type ruler and strict social classes - or Stephen Miller and his bizarre xenophobia and hatred of the Constritution- is worse?

I am leaning towards Vance because he knows better but craves power at all costs.

That is literally the argument used in Central Europe between like 1910 and 1945. If you cannot defend your land from the strongest foreign threat, then you do not deserve to exist.

"Your ownership of territory is only as legitimate as your ability to defend it" is the rule that has governed just about all nation state level relationships since we began forming tribes.

That rule, as brutal as it sounds, worked fine until about 1900, before central banks and the industrial age created super powers with runaway governments and blank-check militaries.

This reminds me a bit of college football and conference realignment. Without parity you end up with absolute chaos.

I’m not a Greenland expert by any means and in reality had never once thought about them until this regime started antagonizing them out the blue this past year

What exactly does Greenland need defending from? What has Denmark not done a good job keeping Greenland safe from?

I’m genuinely asking, because that rhetoric has to have come from somewhere

Let's add that when NATO allies sent troops to Greenland to show they would defend it and The United States didn't need to worry about it, Trump took it as a show if threat to the United States. He doesn't have an idea what he's doing or understand how NATO works.

It should be kind of an important thing for Presidents to understand.

Heck, I don't trust us anymore. Why would they. I used to trust check and balances but as complicit as the supreme court and congress has been, we seem to be F'ed.

Putin loves the chaos. He would like nothing more than for us to split with Nato and have a civil war.

What kind of understanding and policy do you think result when the main streams of information come from extreme right-wing media and influencers, while everyone else is fake news? We have plenty of examples of that here on ClutchFans, where certain posters live in these isolated bubbles of information.

But of course, posters here aren’t the commander-in-chief of the most powerful military in the world, which possesses enough weapons to destroy humankind several times over.

It's a strange alignment of circumstances that allows a leader who doesn't know how things work with their job to have a real effect to not only spread that ignorance, but to convince the ignorant that they are the ones that do know what's going on.

    this is true

    but seriously tho

this regime will usually peddle some bullsh*t to justify their war mongering before dropping all pretense

with Venezuela it was drug boats and “narco-terrorists”

What is Greenland needing to be protected from? What is Denmark failing to defend Greenland from?
