I'm starting to wonder what this team will look like once Dorian Finney-Smith gets to be 100% healthy. He clearly is taking a long time to get his NBA legs back. The Rockets would not have given him the contract he was given if this is all he had to offer. Adams has a similar slow return and now is one of the most valuable pieces on the roster. I think Dorian will have the same effect. I say all that to say I don't think he is on the table as a trade chip. Rockets expect a 100% recovery and in fact, expect him to be better than he was before. If that's the case, then he may be that piece we have been searching to add, and just need another month or so to see him show up.
What do you think we’d have to give up to get Darryn Peterson out of the draft? I think Amen would be the only off limits
I’m with you about DFS being really impactful once he is fully recovered. But the Steveo analogies hopefully don’t fit here. We took a full year mulligan on Steveo so he could recover, and even last year he didn’t start looking fully recovered until the end of the season. If DFS is gonna take a few months more to fully recover, this was a bad signing. Our win-now window with KD is limited. DFS has to be fully recovered and in peak form heading into March. We need the team fully gelled for the playoffs. I’m just hoping DFS looks light years better 6 weeks from now. That’s my limit for patience with this signing.
What about Eason and Clint/filler for Kuminga? If Rockets are hesitant on signing Tari long term with the injury concerns, we can pivot to a more athletic/higher upside wing who could offer some offensive juice.
I would probably do that for Peterson. The 2029 would hurt but we have our 28’ and 30’ to fall back on. Not sure if he could be developed into a future point guard
I don't think any player who's a complete non shooter is worth even looking at unless they're a true star who's worth building around
Ya i have no clue, there's never really been a trade of a legit 1st overall pick in a good draft (maybe the cavs trading wiggins but they were going for an immediate title)
I would have completely agreed with you a few weeks ago. I may be open now to talent over fit gambles and possibly trading for future picks going forward just based on how flawed the roster already is.
he’s athletic but the bball IQ is lacking, he can’t shoot very well, and the defense is also suspect. He’s one of those guys team bet on for “potential”. But it’s already year 5. I don’t trust him to become a winning basketball player and I don’t want to pay him Bari money. The warriors are gonna end up with a Trae Young type of return; maybe they get a rotational player, but nothing more than that.
Would y’all do this if Kings get the #1? Get a guard like Peterson in the backcourt for the future. Start to retool around Amen, Peterson, and Jabari Sabonis & KD would both be coming off the books in 2028. That’s $90million off the books + our 2028 pick. We would be done with FVV after next year. That’s possibly $110mil+ not including clearing Adams and Capella off the books to start putting pieces around Amen, Peterson, and Jabari Next season just grab a couple forwards FVV / Peterson Amen / Malik KD / Jabari / Sabonis / Adams
We’re giving about 9 first rounders of value for the #1 pick and taking on Sabonis who’s probably worth -2 firsts or so? Basically 11 firsts for peterson?
Y’all always coming for my head on picks lol. I figure taking a #1 in any draft is probably 1-2 picks. Monk for an injury prone Tari & taking DFS contract is probably a pick in itself. I don’t think Sabonis would be a huge fall off from Sengun for 1-2 years Gonna get tight with Sengun, Amen, Jabari, Tari, and possibly Reed all having extensions with these apron rules. I’d rather have Sabonis, KD, and FVV all off the books in 2028 and build around Amen & Peterson. Doubt Amen gets a full max so we would have money to sign some nice pieces around the 3
I think if you are gonna do something like this and aim for being a .500 team; i would rather just tank. Trade sengun for something like sarr and a pick or two, instead of taking on 2 years of dead money. People vastly overrate sabonis, he is not good
I think we wouldn't have his bird rights and therefore can't afford to renew him in the summer. Would be a rental basically. They'll still want a first round pick. Would rather get someone that has value to us beyond this season if we're trading a FRP. At least someone with positive trade value.
