    Agree to disagree

Both mlbpipeline and fangraphs project Freeland to have a better than average everyday shortstop glove and arm with average to solid other tools.

Ryan has 3 plus pitches, TOR potential and has his TJS out of the way.

What does a Paredes for Freddy Peralta deal look like?

If they trade Isaac, do they need to get LH hitting?

Astros really can’t afford to trade Paredes without getting a good hitter back in return. And at this point they really don’t need Peralta, although of course he would improve their rotation. But something like Paredes and Arrighetti for Peralta and Frelick might make some sense in terms of fair value and helping both teams. I don’t think Milwaukee would think that’s their best option thought.

    Agree

The ONLY way Dana would trade Paredes without getting a quality hitter back would be if it was for controllable pitching, not a short term guy like Peralta, as good as he may be

Red Sox get: Paredes, Weiss, Forcucci
    Astros get: Bello, Tolle, Arias

Would be hard to turn down, even though it would leave us needing a bat

I don’t think players can be traded right after signing a free agent contract, so I don’t think trading Weiss is an option.

I would not be in favor of limiting our bats like this.

True, I just think this would be more in line with what Boston would rather do for Paredes, well maybe without Arias in the offer

I don't think Boston will want to give up Duran or Abreu in a deal for Paredes, not saying they couldn't be negotiated into it, but I think they would rather give up controllable mid rotation pitching

Now if they deal for a guy like Donovan they would probably be much more likely to be ok moving one of those guys since Donovan could play out there also if the need arises, which over the course of 162 it often does

While the Dodgers just waited until he was a FA ...

Heck, the Dodgers almost don't even need a farm system. They have the money to sign FAs every year.

Their initial run of greatness (that didn't result in a WS ring, thanks to the Astros!) was largely driven by great drafting and intl signings and player development...then they decided to say "**** it, money don't matter" and started buying the team.

eta: I have nothing to base this on, but I would imagine that Guggenheim Partners, the Dodgers owners, are in the top 3 or so of richest (not counting MLB value) owners in the League.

Why are you kicking Sousa to the curb? If he's healthy he's in my pen.

    Sousa's 2nd cousin, confirmed!

Kidding. Seriously I'd let LMJ walk first. He has no business being on this roster anymore.

    Why? This trade:

Clears Walkers contract and opens 1B for Paredes.

Adds a controllable high upside LH bat that can play 1B, 3B, and LF. Vientos had a 128 wRC+ against RHP in 2024.

Adds a potential ToR SP in Senga.

Adds a controllable, optionable utility player with immense upside.

Unless you think Arrighetti is gonna be something he hasn’t been so far, this trade makes a lot of sense for the Astros.

Sousa has an option year left and there are 7 RP (including McCullers) who are out of options. So I have him in the minors to start the season, but it is extremely likely an injury would open a spot for him.

I like Arrighetti’s upside and I don’t want HOU to punt Walker. We need him to step up.

Funny how Red Sox fans seem to think a straight up deal of Paredes for Duran is preferable (as they fear they would need to include more for Paredes)
