rounding error for the Dodgers. Ironically, I bet the Yankees are the ones crying the most about how much the Dodgers are spending.
Yamamoto is up there but as good as Ohtani is, he isn't as dominant as Skubal and Skenes. Then you stitch together the 5 best relievers in the MLB, it would be really tough for them to score other than the occasional homerun. The Dodgers were down in the world series last season to the the Blue Jays. Yamamoto pretty much saved their ass.
There goes another option for the Red Sox. If Dana really wants to deal Paredes, he’s got them right where he wants them.
Mets have Polanco slated for 1B, Semien at 2B, Lindor at SS, and now Bichette (I assume) at 3B Now is the time to try and get Brett Baty from them. No idea what a package may be.
Because we need yet another infielder? Haven't you spent the last week saying something must be done to trade away our current infielders?
It's about fit. I do not think this team has too many infielders. I think this team has too many RH infielders who the organization apparently, thinks must all play everyday. Baty hits LH and plays a solid 2nd and 3rd base and has not been an everyday starter. He balances the lineup and adds a legitimate backup 2B. Takes the sting out of the inevitable Paredes deal.

Blake Snell is a better pitcher than Ohtani. He's got multiple CY awards and when healthy is one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. That said, counting on him and Glasnow to be healthy is a huge risk. Likewise with Ohtani.
All these super high AAV short term deals sure seem to be adding leverage to the owners in CBA negotiations. Tucker, Bregman, and Bichette stand to lose $130,000,000.00 if the 2027 season is lost; my guess is they’ll be pushing pretty hard for the players to give in if they don’t have a deal by this time next year.
Suarez and Ozuna are the last thumpers left on the market. neither of these guys are going to command significant AAV deals. I expect the hitting free agent market to start moving now.
Players seem to be choosing the short-term deals too though and with opt-outs - it might be a sign of their own confidence that MLBPA will win the negotiations and there will be even more money to be made in new contracts under a new CBA.
I don't see more money coming in than what's already been done on contracts any time soon. I think teams are only wanting to do short term and not have these long contracts grandfathered in and players are taking advantage of the extremely high AAV right now.
And While this may be bad for the fans of small market teams These huge deals with huge tax hits is simply putting more money in the pockets of the owners of those small market teams There will be a lot of owners who speak to the media as if they need change, but in reality will vote to keep things similar to what they are
I’d like to see Altuve get back to his playing weight before the hand injury. Last several years he looked to be carrying more weight and looking winded on the base paths. Let’s go.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2026/01/twins-to-sign-victor-caratini.html Only 5 free agent catchers left who project to be better than Salazar: Christian Vazquez Reese McGuire Gary Sanchez Mitch Garver Jonah Heim Astros can probabiy get one of those guys for very very cheap. Looking at depth charts I really only see the Rockies as a team that still truly needs a backup C. 3-4 of those guys are gonna end up on minor league deals. If Houston offers a guaranteed big league contract and role then they can probably have any one of those guys.
