I would even throw in a pitching prospect like Treadwell.

Yeah, an offense that's starved for hitters should trade Alvarez?

Man, I'm glad you're not the GM. 2 yrs ago Alvarez played in like 120-130 games and probably would've played in over 100 last yr if the doctors had diagnosed his broken hand properly.

I think I would remember if I said Yordan is worthless in a trade.

But it is perfectly reasonable for a player to be crucial to a team's success but have reduced trade value due to a down or injured season.

Red Sox willing to deal one of their young SP's with Duran or Abreu for Paredes now with the Ranger Suarez signing?

The Astros and Red Sox have traded with each other, they have players they each covet and both need to address major roster issues.
I think a Paredes trade happens.

Trading Paredes would be a huge mistake. He will be needed to cover third base when Correa is injured.

Yes, but ... not gonna get back to WS by being passive and playing it safe. There is always "luck" involved, if only avoidance of bad luck injuries. Since we can't throw barrels of money at players, we have to take some risk and hope players and trades work out as they should, based on metrics. Create optimal line up and hope that any injuries are days or weeks not months. We have a lot of AAAA players to sub in short term.

I think Paredes is a perfect player for the Astros.I prefer they keep him and find a way to get all of these guys in the lineup daily. But if the Red Sox are willing to overpay by sending us Duran and Early or Tolle, that is too much to pass up.

I don't like the idea of trading Paredes either

But your hatred of Correa has become very tiresome

Correa is also a guy who without a doubt can help us get back to the WS if we get into the playoffs. Carlos can hit good pitching, and he has proven to be at his best when the lights are the brightest

His HR in game 5 in 2017 is my single favorite Astros moment. ****, it's my single favorite sports moment

Agreed, but if I could get young controllable pitching back and an avg MLB OF I would do the deal.

Tucker deal just makes it even more obvious that players are less likely to sugn extensions and reduce that window.

12 months ago we were debating whether Tucker could get $250M over 10 years.

The new CBA may bring big changes but it is more important than ever to have prearb players with major roles to prove themselves early and make safer gambles when extending them if they are willing.

It's too late for Jeremy Pena.

Trade him to the Dodgers now for Alex Freeland, Dalton Rushing, and River Ryan.

The best time to trade him is at the end of this season. Another good reason to keep Paredes.

I understand your b thought but he has more value now than he will this time next year.

As long as the front office is smart about the return, the best time to trade him is as soon as its decided that he won't accept an extension.

I think it is a lot more subjective. The Cubs were willing to pay a huge amount to get one year of Tucker. Prices are based a lot on demand; not necessarily as much on an extra year of control. I believe it is in the best interest of the Astros to sell him after this season. And I would not sell him to the Dodgers.

You may be right about his value. I may he right. It may differ by the player.

But I think the Dodgers are the perfect team.
    1. They collect stars.
    2. They have means to extend him making it more likely they want him.
    3. They have expendable players at the positions the Astros need.
    4. They are in the NL so don't hurt the Astros chances to contend.

The LAD are not the only teams with talent for trade. Also, if I were trading Pena I would want a Tucker-esque return of MLB ready studs.

    If I were trading Pena:
    1. Get a young MLB ready SS back
    2. Do not trade to an AL team.
    3. Get high ceiling young controllable talent.

The Dodgers are specifically who I would target as my #1 option. Trading to them is better than any AL team. They have the young talent at the exact right positions. They have the financial vision to want Pena. This way they get him with 2 years exclusive negotiating period.

I think the package I suggested is vastly superior to the Tucker deal.

There are plenty of NL teams that would overpay for Pena in 2027.

Rushing— He is a hard hitting left-handed bat that chase the ball too much and pulls the ball to right-center field. He is a mid-level defender at C.

R Ryan— he has plus tools but he’s coming up off TJS and he is a project.

    Freeland—weak hit tool; backup 2B/3B.

I like that Rushing would greatly improve our backup C, but I think HOU did much better in the haul for Tucker. I don’t consider either Ryan or Daulton to have the star potential of Cam Smith. And I don’t see anyone that fits as well as Paredes does for this team.
