Yep…I try to make friends everywhere I go…I just don’t need the constant negativity when I choose to log in. The fact there was a whole thread about it last night was so right on point at the same time the Texans got maybe their greatest win ever. I just don’t wanna live that way…and if I can block it out, I will. If the ignore button wasn’t a thing here, I would have left a long time ago. We only have so many days to live on a ball of rock circling a ball of hydrogen. GO TEXANS!
It says that CJ is an above average QB right now, and is one of the younger QBs in the league. I don't know about you but I am glad that we have that in Houston. If you look at the timeframes that most QBs enter their peaks, they are 5 years from CJ's current age of 24. Look at Jared Goff, Baker, Darnold himself. Most teams give up on them and they become better when they hit 27. You might be seeing it with Trevor right now too. Jordan Love didn't start a game until he was 25, same with Aaron Rodgers. People talk like it's so easy to replace a guy like CJ, when that's simply not true. In the draft you will not find easily a guy that can throw the ball as well as CJ. Most QBs have significant weaknesses. Let CJ learn the game, because once he learns the game, he's one of the few guys that can make the throws. He's already had the resume (3 playoff wins) and experience that many QBs don't have until they are 29.
Most of the discourse around CJ now is that he plays scared and that's a real bad look. The pouty faces on the sideline don't help. He seems mortified of getting hit after his concussion. I don't want to pay a big contract to a QB who doesn't do what is needed to win, especially in the playoffs.
False, most fans want CJ to play better. They think this team can win a SB if he does. Last night wasn't nearly good enough to win a championship and posters want to talk about his suckage. Nothing wrong with that. Some posters wish he was more humble after he sucked so bad last night.
Caley called a great game...outside of the flea flicker. CJ played better in the 4th. He had moments earlier, but the snap/fumble issues were bad.
He's not as accurate as you're making him out to be and hasn't been since his rookie yr. I want them to make CJ play out his 4th/5th option and see how he does. But make no mistake, most QB's can play better than CJ did last night and really for the last 2 yrs for that matter. Experience? This is yr 3, how many more yrs are we going to use the experience excuse?
I’m a fan of honesty and objectivity. The super optimistic here see one thing, the pessimistic see another. I’m honestly in the middle, CJ was nails his rookie season. He’s been a middle of the road guy for two seasons now and I just don’t want to be strapped to that at top 5 money for a QB. You are actually one of the only ones here that isn’t complete sunshine and daisies, some here take it personally when there’s any objective criticism of CJ, who’s supposed to be the franchise guy.
I liked the flea flicker, if CJ could've gotten the pass off cleanly Higgins was wide open for a TD. If that had happened then everybody would be talking about what a great playcall that was. CJ needs to learn if the play isn't there take the sack and dont force things. He actually has gotten better at this since he came back from the concussion. Unfortunately he regressed big time last night under the bright lights in this area.
Darnold has been every bit as good as CJ over the last 2 yrs even with the bad game in the playoffs last yr. Only difference between Darnold sucking and CJ sucking last night was Meco's defense. Baker played hurt the 2nd half of the yr. Give me Dart anyday. Dart has better potential, is much more athletic and doesn't play scared. Ironic thing is Dart missed a couple of games this yr because of a concussion and CJ Missed 3.
Burrow is at another level. With the Texans' defense and improving offensive line, he would be amazing. But he makes a ton of money.
Every QB who is "next" basically sets the new market rate which is dumb and how teams like the Dolphins and Cardinals who overpay for an Average QB sets the team back for years. I love CJ BUT no way in hell I am paying him $50+ million for "this" version of CJ.......I am confident that in an offense like Burrows has, he would be more prolific, but that's not OUR offense who asks him to be conservative and don't turn the ball over. This offense needs a game manager who can also run a little but first and foremost be "smart" with the football and diagnose what the D is about to throw at you. IMO I would rather spend $$ on the D and on offensive skill positions like RB and OL. When you look at teams like KC and Cincy who have sunk so much $$ into the QB (who deserve it IMO) the run to the playoffs is over, they simply can't put a competitive team on the field year after year, the Bengals have so much $ tied up in Burrows and the 2 wideouts that they suffer everywhere else. On the flip side, we all know how painful it is to have a mediocre QB, looking at you money Mills (and I love ya dude) and so its a fine line which is why you have to go all in when a QB is on a rookie contract. With that said, I assume the McNair's will overpay for CJ and we will see how Casserio deals with the salary cap, is he Howie R of the Eagles, only time will tell I hope and pray, that CJ flips a switch this weekend and has a flashback to his rookie year.....................I REALLY want him to succeed, cause if not this will not end well
Re: trading Shroud...I'll play along... I just don't see how Joe Burrow is even remotely available. His cap hit would be massive if the Bengals trade him. I think he's stuck there unless he just sits out and forces his way out. If there were a Jared Goff / Matt Stafford type trade available, with Stroud being Goff in this case, I would strongly consider it. But a lot of stars would have to align for that to happen and I think that trade is 1 of 1 in NFL history. I think if you're the Texans, you pick up the club option and hope for the best. Start negotating long term but you can't do anything until you see him perform next season, with a full year under Caley's belt and hopefully continued improvement in protection. He has flashed IMO and the optimist in me is hoping he'll get up for big games (like the 2022 Rose Bowl). One of those Eli Manning playoff runs starting this week would be great.
