Silly Sam, you don't lose your right to self-defense when you start working for the government. I sided against the armed agent of the state Michael Byrd when he shot Ashlii Babbit while being in no danger from her. I sided against the armed agent of the state Michael Slager when he shot and killed Walter Scott. It turns out I just have a consistent framework around how I judge self-defense cases. If you reasonably apprehend you are in imminent danger of death or great bodily injury, you are allowed to respond with deadly force. That means if a car is coming at you (imminent threat of great bodily injury), you can shoot the driver (respond with deadly force), but if an unarmed person is running away from you (no imminent threat of great bodily injury), you cannot shoot them (no right to use force in self-defense). It is why Kyle Rittenhouse and George Zimmerman were found not guilty (despite not being "armed agents of the state"). I believe this because that is what the law says.
