Depends on your definition of significantly. Almost 10%, which I wouldn't fault you for calling significant as a 1 year change. It certainly fell a ton the first go around, but COVID made oil futures plummet to a negative cost, which is insane. If you want to give him credit for that, it feels weird, but up until then? Sure, as much as you want to credit gas prices to a President, but prices actually went up for the first couple years of his Presidency, because they plummeted in 2016. Gas was about 10% more in January 2020 than it was in January 2017.

For me, it does very little. I've spent $18.89 on gas in the last 6 months. $499.86 all of last year, and some of that is really for car washes and snacks.

Forgive me for asking but why the hell do I care? Like why do we care about exceptional situations where some benefits while the vast majority do not?

I will tell you this, lower gas prices are good for lower/middle class Americans.

 

I live in Houston but operate a statewide business minus West Texas. Our guys fill up once a day, sometimes twice a day depending on the trip.

 

... and unsurprisingly lowers his empathy score ... and we all can assume that he does not care about that either.

 

I care about what makes life easier for the middle/lower class and cheaper gas prices make things easier for them.

Also gas prices are nearly the same as under Biden and OPEC controls gas prices, and is just as likely to spike gas prices because of Trumps embargo than they are to lower them just because Trump seized Venezuelan land that might or might not have oil available in 5 years to sell to African countries.
