Reed was mostly a decoy last night. Made a couple of bad turnovers in a row. He was usually not in when the Rockets spacing went to crap. Defense was not very disruptive, but not exploited too much either. Considering the spacing issues the Rockets were having, I was a little surprised Reed got yanked for the bad turnovers.
If they’re gonna have Reed in the corner then they need to set a back screen like they do for Curry to get him open. Amen can blow past his defender then kick it to the corner.
I feel like he needs to stagger reeds minutes or play without KD. His turnovers are always trying to force passes to KD and it makes him play way less aggressive. We turn it over so much just trying to get KD the ball. Just attack.
These are as much Kids fault as Reeds KD is presenting a weak target and doesn’t get his base wide allowing defenders to just reach right by him. I hate the KD at the top play we need far less of that. DD
Cant tell if you are being serious, but the corner 3 is the closest 3pt shot so typically your poorest shooters are out there- Okogie and Amen should be taking corner threes(when Amen isn't distributing). Because Reed is a good shooter we need him closer to the top of the 3pt line because he has a better chance to make them, and because he can shift left/right into openings as double teams poke holes in the coverage. The corner shooter has less places to go in the corner so you waste a good shooter there because it's easier to scheme for and defend a corner shooter because the sideline acts as another defender.
https://www.hoopshype.com/rankings/players/?isSixthMan=true Reed not doing bad at all Looking like A- for sure now. Do you think having Fred surgery actually wasnt a bad senario now that Reed has come in and sorta picked up the slack for fred? Plus Reed needed this development in his Career right?
Can't stand when he picks up the dribble and tries to force the ball to a doubled KD .... UGH! I think that's more on Ime than Reed but he has to execute better ....
Your point is taken, but I'm not strictly speaking about spacing and preferred player locations. I'm just saying that Reed is standing in the corners a ton without getting the ball. Those possessions don't get reflected in the stats I cited. It would be different if he was rarely in the corner and I suggested he needs to be there more based on his efficiency from that spot. He's already there much of the time, I just wish teammates would find him more when he's open.
Staggering them would be better in the short term (next month or so). That said, I think a good portion of it is chemistry, such that staggering would likely hinder long-term growth (hopefully, growth would happen before playoffs).
The simple truth is that Reed is a defensive liability.., which hey, Curry is too... so its not a dealbreaker... His defensive shortcomings can be offset if he's pouring in points... imo he's got to be a high volume shooter to offset those shortcomings... Now if he's on the floor with KD and Sengun... those are options 1A and 1B.... and Reed tries to pass it to them accordingly... but then u got reed playing every defensive play but only getting limited shots - which is not a good ratio.... Which is why Reed is the ideal 6th man.... if he's out there with Steven, Capela, and hopefully more defensive minded guys - cool... let those guys worry about d and u fire em up, Reed! Imo Reed seems far more comfortable in that role... he's not worried about feeding the stars - he's looking to shoot.
The biggest issue is the complete and total lack of any offensive game plan or system. The entire offense is just let a bunch of forwards... many of which can barely dribble a basketball, go ISO while everyone else watches and the forwards lack the BBIQ to pass.
I think this is where Reed is going to be this year - getting 20-30 mins a game based on matchups and game flow as a 6th man. I think he is excelling in this role and trending towards being a long time starter in this league when he gains weight/strength and learns the game a little better. I think he has a decent chance of hitting the Mark Price comps in his prime during his second contract.
agree... heck id even try to load manage KD better to open up more opportunities for Reed to develop... I think Reed/Amen/Tari/Jabari/Sengun can take care of business against some lesser teams... Hopefully, once KD is gone, we can work the roster around the Reed & Sengun combo... but all these comments about KD getting in the paint and then needing to pass to Reed in the corner confuse me... this is Kevin fkn Durant... if he's in the paint, he can rise up over about anybody and the last thing i want is for him to be passing at that point... lol
Funniest part of the game(because oui Juan, go Rockets). . Hollins: "You can't throw a low pass to KD. You have to throw it higher. (R33d's pass gets robbed)" A few seconds later, Reed throws the pass higher to KD. Hollins: " Ok. But not that high" Pass sails over KD's head. I don't mind the failures. It's going to make him better. Did laugh. Reed really meant it when he said a month ago, " The hard part is getting KD the ball."
