There are an inordinate number of "prostitutes" in the world at all levels and walks of life.

Didn't know it was a thing until this week, but I like that a player can tag himself as "do not contact" when entering the portal, which prevents, you know, other teams from contacting him while he looks at his options.

Question as someone who hasn’t closely followed the topic- are schools recalibrating at all to deprioritize recruiting high school players? Seems like it could be wasteful when you can instead let another school do all that work to recruit and develop a guy and then put energy into snagging him off the portal?

Typically you buy players out of the portal. Not saying that doesn't happen in recruiting, but i think HS seniors cost less.

I think any middle-tier team should do exactly this. Recruiting guys, developing them, and then watching them leave seems obnoxious.

I believe Texas Tech did that last year to some degree and just got a ton of portal transfers and became a top 5 team.

HS seniors definitely cost less, but they also aren't likely playing much their freshman years. By the time they become good, they'll expect to be paid - either by you or by transferring out. So why not skip the development stage and just load up your team with experienced juniors and seniors?

Haven't looked at the article today, but I think TT spent 31M on their transfers, and it sure fixed their defense

The "cream of the crop" schools continue prioritizing HS recruits as their foundation and they continue dominating HS recruiting rankings.
(One thing that seems to be a little different is 5-star recruits are spread out over more teams now).

The transfer portal has become the great redistributor of talent and prevents schools from stacking rosters 2-3 deep because everyone is buying players now. This guarantees Nick Saban will remain the greatest CF coach ever.

At the rate things are going, college GMs might become almost as important as the coach.

The Big Boy schools recruit as normal, and use the portal to plug holes.

Or at least that's how it worked the last 2 years

If we end up with Indiana vs Ole Miss in the national championship, I wonder if it will make more teams reconsider? I don't actually know how much they use the portal, but it seems like it would be a lot given that I don't think they are top recruiting destinations.

I posted this in the Texans Draft thread:

IU's best DB/RB/WR/ILB/DT(maybe) all followed Cignetti from James Madison. This year they've had huge contributions from football powerhouse transfers like Cal (Mendoza), Kent State, Maryland, Colorado, NCState, etc...

TCU QB Josh Hoover is the next QB at Indiana...unless Baby Brother Mendoza beats him out.

I wanted Ole Miss to beat Miami, but the upside now is the SEC is shut out yet again.

    I love it!

Growing up and probably now, very few fans in the state of Indiana uses "Hoosiers" to describe their teams.

Here in Texas, yes, it's go Horns (or Longhorns), go Aggies, go Coogs, etc.

Back home, it's simply: Go IU! Forget Hoosiers.

I see. Nobody I know in Indianapolis (where probably 90% of IU fans are) uses the term Hoosiers when talking about IU basketball or football. The term makes some of us actually cringe. That said, during this two-year run with Cignetti, things may have changed.

It seems so unnatural that IU's football team is really good I can't get used to it. Purdue has run hot and cold (mostly cold) over the years but IU football was always a laughing stock.

Tell you one thing: I'm a Purdue grad but I'm with them all the way. It would be such a fantastic thing for the state if they finished it off. Even if they don't, the ride has been awesome.
