The Monroe Doctrine... now the Donroe Doctrine. Basically means we run the Americas. No interference from anyone else.

The same reason that Iraqi’s were happy - the same reason Syrians were happy - the same reason Libyans were happy.

There is a good chance they will feel differently in 6 months or a year.

Maduro did not represent the Venezuelan people - nor did Saddam Hussein… but we have meddled and created a power vacuum that will impact the USA greatly because of our Southern border.

Lets see what happens going forward, but based on the long history of US actions in South America, and recent US actions in the Middle East, there is a good chance we have only made the situation worse.

Heard the first part of Trump's speech before he started rambling. He does indeed intend to do regime change. He does intend to militarily occupy the country. He does intend to hand over Venezuela's oil industry to American oil companies. He did supposedly execute the most powerful military incursion since world war 2 despite not having any declaration of war to justify it. The House should be talking about impeachment again. And I know they won't, but this is a disaster. We are running headlong into another quagmire, and no one will pump the brakes.

The resident Trump supporters get what they want: all of the pointless military intervention of Bush and the domestic incoherence of Trump.

These people get everything wrong. Doubt it? Look up their posting history from 2003-present.

How is this a flex? A US President personally running a foreign nation? You don’t find that at least a little concerning?

Here's the "legal justification". Not a constitutional lawyer but everything I see from people who are makes me think it's more scammy reinterpretation of vague constitutional language in the broadest way possible, with no regard for precident but what's new? As long as congress abdicates their responsibility, Trump can reinterpret the constitution however he wants.

The military was sent in to protect American citizens in danger. Those citizens in danger were DEA agents executing an arrest warrant in the residence of a foreign head of state. If Trump can invent a loophole, he sure as hell has no qualms using the hell out of it. It pretty much creates authority to depose whatever foreign head of state he wants to if he can invent a criminal complaint against them.

The.rationale works perfectly equally well when the next Democrat President decides he wants to unilaterally go to war with Russia without congressional consent to depose Putin for violating international law in his invasion of Ukraine. Basically any President can now go to war with anybody they want to any time they'd like.
