Most people agree with you. I never finishes s5 and don’t plan on it. The show received too much hype
Just like with any other 'successful' or 'unsuccessful' shows it resonates differently with this and that group of people. But I have heard that the writing by the Duffers got worse from the previous seasons. (I somehow finished due to me wanting to know about what happened to Jane/Eleven.) And they focused too much on Promo tours and such.
Great finale. Everyone cheered when the evil gays died then were horrified when we learned that their sacrifice was to combine the Bottom-Up with the Earth to make everyone gay.
It was relevant but still felt forced because the writing and acting is so bad. Will was afraid of coming out. Normal, particularly for the 80s. Vecna used your fears to manipulate. He had to tell them so that fear couldn’t be used against him again. There are people who just hate anything “gaym in media. Then there are those that just hate poor writing/acting and storylines that feel like they’re checking boxes. And even though for some god forsaken reason I wanted Will’s haircut in the early 90s, it really pissed me off in the newer seasons because he looked like such a tool as an adult with that hair.
Absolutely nailed the landing for me. The finale came full circle for these characters and story and and it ended in a satisfying, bittersweet and heartbreaking way. And for a show that focused on loss and pain, grief and acceptance, friendships and family and love, the ending was fitting. It brings back memories of saying goodbye to your childhood, and having to move on a grow up and the uncertainty that comes with it. Season 5 wasn't perfect and there are still some question marks in the finale, but I can't think of a much better way to say goodbye this world.
Saw this today in the theater. Satisfying cap to the series. I always thought they were a little younger then class of 1989 but I looked it up and it’s on point with them being 12 in 83. Dustin, Lucas and Max were the standouts this season. Great acting and great characters. Meh roles/turns were the Holly actress and as always the boring Jonathan Byers. Nancy kicked ass. El’s trout pout was completely distracting. I never thought Steve would be the most likable guy on the show but he was in the end. Karen going toe to toe with a Demogorgon was a great scene (but her super faded scars 18 months later was a head shaker). Kaiju Mind Flater was awesome but didn’t show any of the intelligence from even earlier in the series or even the final episode. I know they’re making a cartoon set earlier in the series but aside from adopting the First Shadow/Vecna origin play I hope they just leave the series as done.
8 turned out to be a real one, but it was weird how her plan for both her and 11 dying ended up with only 11 surviving, with her helping her survive. Vecna wasn't turned, but they did attempt to justify him with Will. None of the main characters died. They gave Vecna and the Mind Flayer easily exploitable weaknesses, making the final battle way too easy. That said, I'd like to see someone come up with a satisfying ending given all of the wasted time.
They extended the ending a little too long. Someone said the Climax happened and we still had 40 minutes to go Rocket River
I feel like it gave closure to every storyline. The 3rd LOTR movie did something similar, where the climax was 30 minutes before the ending. The show plays a lot on the emotional side of things, so giving it that emotional closure pays off. Now, mind you, if you are like me, you didn't care too much for the feelings aspect of things, but I felt it was well done for those who care for it.
Yeah, the gay bashing is over the top. That being said, the whole gay storyline with Will was poorly written, although hinted at for multiple seasons. Fine if they addressed it, but the way it was done was poorly executed. My least favorite storyline of the show.
It was a good show, but not great. Every season could have been shortened and nothing would really have been missed. My skip button was working hard every season from the slow pace or the pointless conversations that didn't lead anywhere.
Final season was find although there were parts where it felt like the writers were trying to work there way to a proper resolution. The lack of any major death did seem like a bit of a cop out but it is what it is, show was fine it was just anything that really got me super excited or that I hated....
That's how ******* bigots roll. Good to see who's who here on CF so I can put them on my ignore list. Steve should have died. Loose ends: The jocks who beat up Dustin never got their comeuppance and Dr. Kay's role was pretty thin other than bringing in another 80's star in Linda Hamilton to please fans. But hey, she can say she was in two roles where there's a scene of an entire area getting nuked.
