Bro this gonna be an awesome championship game. Someone new who’s never won it or the U who hasn’t won in a quarter century.
Well, I'm glad the refs lost money. Major respect for the Ole Miss team and coaching staff for such a great effort despite losing their coach. Trinidad Chambliss is a revelation. The teams I wanted to win were 4/4 in the CFP quarterfinals. A great weekend of college football. Good to have some fresh blood in the final four.
Man, this has been the ultimate "why you play the games" round. Anybody saying they had these results is lying.
Well, just when you think you have seen EVERYTHING as a fan, something more bizarre happens. What in the world was that?
Kirby Smart just said it seemed like a road game based on the Sugar Bowl crowd noise. That is hard to believe.
I haven't watched any of the CFP games but it's got to sting for Lane Kiffin to see Ole Miss beat Georgia after seeing a team you built win big after you leave. Also glad to see OSU and Georgia lose. Hope Texas can finally pull it together next season.
Wonder what the numbers were last season wrt # of portal entries vs # of guys who actually changed teams
There are ~20,000 FBS players any given year. No idea how you'd find out how many of those have eligibility left, but if you wanted to guestimate take 1/4.5th (NFL entries+4 year SRs who won't pursue a 5th grad student year+5th and 6th-year guys) of those off the table: so you've got ~15.5K players who could transfer and 1K are in the portal, so that's 6.5% I'll let someone else doublecheck my logic and math.
Here's espn's top25 portal entrants: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...26-ncaa-football-transfer-portal-best-players Looks like a great year to be a talented team with money who is lacking a QB Also, Hollywood Smothers is a perfect name for a CB, yet it's wasted on a RB
I don't think that's right - there are 130 FBS teams. Your numbers would put each team at 154 players? I think each team is only allowed 85 scholarship players?
This is the reason I'm rooting for Ole Miss. The whole point of being a head coach in football (besides money) is to win a national title. It's what, theoretically, every coach is supposed to be playing for. Kiffin had a whole ESPN 30-for-30 about he had grown up and loved Ole Miss and didn't need money, etc earlier this season. And then he immediately left for LSU despite being on the doorstep. For him to miss out on the singular purpose of his profession - and hopefully never get close at LSU before getting fired - would be awesome.
From the 2023-2024 portal: https://247sports.com/article/colle...-a-record-setting-number-of-entries-231268813 There are currently 3,843 names in the FBS transfer portal, per a source, which smashed the previous record of 3,502 set in the 2022-23 cycle. This included a winter and spring portal - I know there was talk about changing that, but I'm not sure how it works this year.
not everyone. I only missed one so far but there are 136 in tact brackets in the game day espn group I’m in.
OK...my player numbers came from 2023 or last year per google 136 teams in FBS 85 scholarship players and a limit on total players of 120 per: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...ootball-roster-size-questions-ncaa-settlement Call it 100 players, so 13,600 players Minus my guestimate of 2/9ths being ineligible to transfer (that leaves 10,578 potential transfers) At 1000 portal entrants, that's ~9.5% At 3800 portal entrants (your total from last year): 36% Now tell me how many of those 3800 actually changed teams last year
Read that 30-50% of portal entries don’t even sign with new teams. No idea if that is true but Sark put it bluntly the other day. NFL agents need to be certified while college doesn’t. You can literally have a true freshman “agent” calling coaches demanding a number that isn’t even a conversation starter. Recalculating…
