I couldnt believe he said that weeks ago then signing him to be Stros is like Rockets signing Durant, or Durant dont want to team with Stephen Curry. Right when we thought the Stros would sign no one this offseason. A Banger!!!

They're still roughly a little under 10 mil for cap space for next season according to Spotrac.

One thing to note about this deal is that if Imai pitches well enough to opt out then he will warrant a qualifying offer, and thus will net Houston a draft pick. So he either pitches great, and Houston gets $40M+ worth of value out of Imai plus a draft pick for only $21M, or he pitches terribly and is a bad contract for 2 years.

Boras banking on the success of Yusei in 2024. And in 2025 no name pitchers that became successful. His success is Astros success.

Maybe the opt outs are there to help balance the payroll. Once McCullers rolls off after this year, the Astros can sign Imai back to a more lucrative deal if warranted.

Hope he can make the adjustment and help the 'stros maximize the next little window here.

Like everyone I've been waiting for something to happen and of course it does when I'm at the gym! Well done Dana and Jim, getting the #1 Japanese pitcher this year only costs us cash and no draft picks or prospects--that's smart team building!

Having lived in Japan for 2 years, I'm amped we've tapped into this pipeline and have started looking to Asia for players. Really nice addition to our rotation. With Burrow and Weiss were reshaping our rotation and I love how we're doing it. GO STROS!

What does this mean for the cap? Is it simply replacing Framber’s salary? Did they exceed the cap?
