My sister was 7 years older than I was and MTV was constantly on in the mid-80’s as we only had one main TV and she normally got to choose. Lots of memories up through the mid 90’s (around the iconic Weezer Buddy Holly video) when I stopped watching.

Some of the early videos were very, very strange and so completely divorced from the actual song. What did some post-apocalyptic scavenger hunt slash technology party have to do with good love being hard to find? Why did they all show up (presumably in a world depopulated by the apocalypse) at the same place at the same time and not even talk to each other and then just leave?

It makes no sense, and for like the first 4 or 5 years of MTV that was totally normal.

I saw this video like 10 times a day every day when I tuned into MTV for a couple of years.

I really remember watching this one one a bunch, too. Probably because I was a 12 year boy awash in hormones and it was very boob-foreward and kind of pervy. Dominatrix-based seating seemed like a great idea to a 12 year old boy.

    Whomever concieved it, mission accomplished.
