I would definitely rather them add a top pitcher than another bat if they have to choose. But if they don’t add a bat, they are going to be in a position where they are going to need at least 2 of Diaz, Cole, Sanchez, Smith, Dezenzo, or Matthews to be really good offensively if they want to contend.
With 30M they could've added JV + Efflin. Brown Efflin Burrows JV Javier Weiss Alexander Blubaugh Ullola Pecko
If it was me I would sign Giolito (What's his injury history look like last yr?) and trade for one of the Cards OF.
So a guy with an ERA of 6 last year who ended the year on the injured list and had surgery is our #2 pitcher? Is that a good use of very limited money?
Well, c'mon. There's also the "Eflin wants to be in Baltimore" and "JV is basically retired" things to work around. A good GM would have taken care of all that. Oh, and Eflin is slated to be, if healthy, the O's 4/5 starter.
His contract is also supposedly not as simple as has been reported- he makes a decent amount more money with incentives. It’s a solid deal for Baltimore - but he had back surgery a few months ago and there is some risk. Astros liked him - but he wanted Baltimore, and they likely paid him more with incentives than the Astros would.
We have LH OF bats on the roster already and if we have to add one mid season Sullivan and Spence will be better than what we could get outside the organization.
Not even close. Our stud OF/3B wasn't even as good as Sanchez last year, so two mid level prospects will not be better than proven MLB players, even crappy ones available at the deadline. Would be nice if they were but planning on that to happen in the offseason is foolish.
You mean the guy who had a 30% k rate in AA last season and the undrafted free agent? Maybe they can trade Pena since Hector Nieves surely should be ready to come up by midseason!
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/12/giants-nearing-deal-with-tyler-mahle.html Giants probably out of the Verlander mix. Here’s my current “worst case scenario” opening day roster prediction: SS Pena DH Paredes LF Alvarez 3B Correa 2B Altuve 1B Walker RF Sanchez C Diaz CF Meyers Bench: Matthews, Vazquez*, Allen, Cole SP: Brown, Verlander*, Javier, Burrows, Weiss, Arrighetti RP: Hader, Abreu, King, Okert, Pearson, Munoz, McCullers IL: Walter, Wesneski, Blanco Optioned: Blubaugh, Gordon, Alexander, France, Ullola, Sousa, Murray, Salazar, Whitcomb, Smith, Dezenzo DFA: De Los Santos, Ort
I wasn't saying he's our #2 SP. Just making a list of SP who would be in the mix. If he's healthy he sure would be a better option then some of these other SP. That said he's off the market.
