You don't need a great QB to win the SB

You've got one young elite QB in Drake Maye, who has a chance to go down as a top 3 GOAT. Absolutely special.

Right below him in the young bracket are Caleb Wilson and Jayden Daniels. Maybe Jordan Love. Pro Bowlers who make big plays.

CJ... falls in the tier below that. The Tua Tagoliva tier. And that's why I'm hesitant about handing him a big contract because well, it's a QB and we have to pay him like he's Brady. But most are not.

The Texans reached the playoffs because of an incredible defense, a defense they only have because of the Watson trade. Selling a luxury position high to fortify the team with elite depth is the way to go.

If the Texans miss out on the SB again this year, it's the trigger you have to pull instead of handicapping the team with a big stroud contract. Veteran QB's can fill in and do the job --- Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, there's always someone out there who can step in and be solid.

You are delusional. NONE of those options are good. I guess you missed the QB purgatory the Texans have been in for most of their existence. Stroud will be signed. Daniel Jones>? Really? Darnold seems to collapse as the season goes on and Rodgers is on his last legs.

Of course, you *can* win a SB without a great QB. You can do without a great coach or a great defense or a great offense or any number of different ways.

It's just not likely. Your list of non-great QBs to win a Superbowl in the last 20 years is Joe Flacco and Nick Foles, and Eli Manning depending on how you view him. That's it. So yeah, you can win without a great QB. You just probably won't.

Regardless of that, your argument in the title ("you don't need a great QB") is different than your argument in your post ("CJ Stroud is not a great QB")

Thankfully, Houston has one of the best performers in the playoffs.
    We're in good shape.

They didn't win with prime Watson or Schaub. It's not the purgatory you think it is. Now all around depth, that's always been an issue. An issue that was only solved by the most lopsided trade in modern NFL history.

Stroud's trade value will never be higher while not having the extra gear of his contemporaries. You sell on potential. This would be the moment to get elite offensive tackles, top draft picks and stock up on positions of need and use the QB as a plug and play position. Anyone solid will do and there's plenty of good not great guys who won't cost $60 million a year. Now if he leads the team to a SB then you roll with it but there's too many parallels with Tua T in terms of decision making.

A reminder, Texans are 4-1 with Davis Mills this season. He led the start of the winning streak. Non flashy guys who get the job done aren't going to prevent you from winning if the pieces around them work.

Alot of what you are implying is true.. But unfortunately that ain't the way the sports world operates... Most teams only have a 3 to 5 year window to win it all unless you're personnel strong from the bottom up... That ain't us! So you're gonna have to pay Stroud that money to offset the incoming exodus of other key pieces via free agency..
But I'm with you.. I wouldn't pay Stroud big money either unless it's on a short contract..

LOL. plug and pay. Ask the Vikings about "plug and play". Journeyman QBs are not going to win you a Super Bowl. Nick Foles was a RARE exception (Flacco was playing like a franchise QB for the Ravens). Otherwise, you do NOT SNIFF a Super Bowl without a franchise QB. Texans know this. Stroud is getting paid. Sorry. You might as well accept it.

Drake Maye has still played NOBODY. Look at his stats against Buffalo. The chargers are a top defensive team. Drake Maye has not played any good defenses

If the Browns want to bring Stroud home to Ohio and offers 4 1sts, a 2nd, and Sanders, i would consider it.

Maye has a Super Bowl winning OC. Caleb has Ben Johnson. The Lions’ offense was a shell of itself without him and missed the playoffs.

    Which Sanders?

If it's the QB, can we give them a conditional 7th just to keep him?

If it's the practice squad RB then maybe we talk.
