It makes perfect sense for DFS, if Tari can’t stay on the court. He was insurance for losing Dillon making us thin at SF. Capella is Adams insurance, since Adams has also frequently been injured over the last several seasons. Okogie was signed as extra backcourt help. All 3 signings made perfect sense. I don’t think they anticipated DFS taking this long to get on the court, but it can still pay dividends. If the Rockets had signed a PG instead, all of the Reed onlys would have been screaming bloody murder. The FVV injury was not anticipated. This hindsight stuff is ridiculous.
He has not played like in 6-7 months.....I mean real games and not scrimmages. He was obviously a SF/PF and sometimes C version of Okogie........people expected him to be the second coming of Draymond Green.
I assumed his signing is Tari insurance/wing depth for the inevitable 25 missed KD games. Not sure now that Tari had another prolonged injury absence how that impacts our likelihood of retaining him, but I would think Tari is the piece that 100% gets traded if he ends up costing us more than $30mil/yr. In the short term, DFS is not KD but I imagine having him and Tari back means KD will be taking more games off in the near future and Houston will rely on smothering defense, and Alpi and Reed to continue to grow their playmaking and scoring skills along with Amen.
He is not like Draymond at all. Not sure where the comp comes from. He's not a playmaker at all. He's a good shooter. He shot around 40% from 3 in his last two seasons on fairly high volume. He's also a good defender. I'd say he's more like a smaller but faster Jabari than Draymond. A solid 3&D guy who can defend the 2-4 positions. He's acquired to replace Dillon Brooks's function on the team. If Reed doesn't start, DFS will compete with Tari for the 5th starter spot.
This right here. He just came back from major ankle surgery into a professional NBA game during Christmas day, against the Lakers. Of course he looked cooked, so did Adams last year. But as the year went on, Adams became better and better, into a crucial player. I bet it's the same for DFS. Honestly, the expectations of our so-called fans are ridiculous. They act like our players are robots, that you just replace the part and hit go. Human bodies are not build like machines.
He is redundant, he does the same **** that Tari does - that Bari does, he is a 3 and D player - we need guys that are more all around players, guys that can create off the dribble.....that is a massive HOLE in our bingo card. DD
Really, you don't understand it? We lost Dillon and Jalen two of our best defenders and 3 point shooters. DFS can defend and shoot well. He's those 2 players insurance plus Jabari fraud insurance.
we signed him before FVV got hurt. would have been nice to spend that on the best PG available on the market.
We have a guy that consistently creates off the dribble. He was missing his layups. He no longer is. Reed is also getting better on ball. Most older guys understand patience. You have none. If the Rockets responded to all the knee jerk fans we would be in the same state as the clippers instead of one of the most talented teams in the league with 5 core players under the age of 24. We lost a lot of games we shouldn’t have for two main reasons Ime’s coaching and lack of depth with the Tari and DFs absences. Now that we have them back, let’s see if Ime will quit with the bizarre rotations and put some screens off the ball in play. We can b**** all we want, but there is no trade for a difference maker that won’t screw our future. It’s amazing how much patience you had with malcontents like Kpj and Cam but have none for Amen and Jabari who work like hell on their game.
Yea no ****. Not sure what folks are complaining about DFS is definitely needed given all the questions surrounding Tari and also the age of Durant and anticipating him missing time also.
DFS was a gamble given the state of his ankle, and yes, it feels redundant now that the entire front court is healthy, but redundancy is a great problem to have when it comes to making trades. Unless we're moving VanVleet, DFS' 12.7MM is the only sizeable contract of a non-essential player that we have to throw in a deal. It's a massive boon to our roster flexibility.
Tari has amazing moments and then there are too many instances where he tries to be the big dog on the team. I love his defense, but with all of that and the injuries, he believes his worth is far more than it is. Personally, I don't like that Ime started Tari over Josh...JO is pure hustle and dependability. His screens are underrated and he doesn't need any plays ran for him. But back to our need to support Reed and Amen for any reason. We were close to signing Gary Trent last season until Giannis pulled him back in, despite his epic collapse in the playoffs. He's an underrated ball handler and a good shooter, though he doesn't get enough. Giannis is as good as gone, so if GT is part of the free bird society, he fits exactly what we need on offense and defense. I guess I'll give DFS more time, but even with the long injury, he didn't seem to even take his minutes seriously. He was a bystander. Josh would never... Maybe that's why I'm concerned we'll send JO packing, which is a shame because he was by far our most underrated signing . Much love to you all on this day after Xmas. I have the holiday blues, so I'm glad it's over. Take care of yourself out there. (V)
My hope was that DFS could replace Brooks' defensive leadership/production. While I did see him talking/directing once, his ability to keep guys in front of him was really poor. I know we're supposed to give him time to work his way back into shape, but man, he looked a loooong way off.
