There are a lot of flashes of Amen making the right read. I don’t think we’re doing any favors to him with some of the coaching on the offensive end. Since he is a top, top-tier athlete sometimes he overcomes the spacing issues, but those still exist. Reed naturally sees the game. He needs a year or so to work on his ball handling, and the issue with him picking up his dribble has already been discussed and is valid. Reed makes very intelligent, basketball players routinely. These together are essentially your starting back court of the future and both our point guard and shooting guard at the same time in my opinion. I want to bring in a veteran point guard because I don’t believe we should waste a year of Durant waiting on VanVleet. That being said Reed and Amen will be fine in due time. I don’t love starting Tari. Obviously it upgrades the defense, but he makes too many stupid plays for my liking.
I thought Ime started Tari vs the Lakers bc he wanted a bigger guy on Luka. It might have been situational.
fwiw: Tari did admit the Sac loss was his fault. He says it in this interview, and also talks about what his rehab taught him about being responsible to the team for admitting to training staff when he’s sore.
It might have to be situational. I posted before that Tari got to 3 fouls pretty quickly even with a slow couple of guards. I wonder how Tari is going to work against quicker backcourts, however I would try it and see how he does. His shooting is sorely needed.
This is a narrative and perception that I believe is unfair. Some players are viewed as unintelligent for whatever reason. Durant makes terrible decisions passing the ball almost on a nightly basis especially with pressure. Same with Amen. Sheppard makes tons of dumb mistakes each game whether its chucking a long three for no reason or shooting an off balanced leaning pullup. But for some reason some players get a pass while others can’t shed the “dumb” perception. Tari’s defense, three point shooting , and ability to get in the paint negates any “dumb” play.
I have delusions of grandeur, I think I’ve seen Tari make all of the same plays that made Cooper Flagg the consensus #1 pick. I think he should be our 4th starter and forgiven for all mistakes he’s going to make. Let him play free and instinctively. Focus on making plays, not avoiding mistakes. The scoreboard has always liked him. I think time will fix the mistakes better than punishment will.
I agree on 90% that. I'm saying it does require certain players in the lineup, IN SPITE OF Ime lol. Cuz I'm not counting on Ime to adjust his offensive scheme I(As in: Amen & Reed need to improve, but Tari helps them better on that. Or a point guard helps everybody. When Ime himself wont). If it's the best of all worlds, were its both a key player in lineup AND Ime adjusts, then great. But we just can't count too much on Ime alone. (FWIW, it's been that Mathloom guy's constant point about Jalen Green. That it doesn't matter how good for bad Jalen is. Its he has potential that can get maximized better if I'me constructed better scheme for him) Instead of the Ime Demeco way of Adams grabbing 3 to 7 offensive misses a game to retain 2nd opportunities
Tari has guarded 1s and 2s before. This isn’t new. Most of it was on switches but sometimes he is assigned to defend the opposing team’s best guard. He’s defended guys like mitchell, SGA, Fox etc. He was assigned to guard SGA in the 2nd quarter of the first game this year and did a pretty good job. Past highlights: (last year but pretty good shot contest)
It’s overblown. He may commit a charge or throw the ball away but what player doesn’t? He is aggressive and runs well on the break. Brings a defensive aura to the lineup. Can get to the paint. And shoots the 3 great. Start the man.
Great let’s move KD to sixth man. Amen, Reed, Tari, Jabari, Sengun. Gets the terror twins back together. Sengun needs to let the 3 pointers fly like earlier this year and we play 4 out. I’m only half kidding. If KD does go down for a few games this should be the starting lineup.
You can't start Reed, it'll be a constant mismatch. He is a good shooter but he gives up alot defensively. He would have to play at a Lucka or Curry level offensively to deserve a starting spot. I think 15 - 20 mins is perfect until he gains strength or become even better offensively
She’s I don’t know why people keep putting so much emphasis on who brings the ball up. It has not been an issue at all this year. We have multiple guys that can do it just fine. It is not the main duty of a pg. We are best in transition when whoever gets the rebound brings it up or makes a quick outlet pass. If we are just bringing it up the court from out of the basket, it should be just Amen or Sheppard and that person should initiate the half court offense most of the time. Too frequently Amen and Sheppard are bring the ball and handing it to Durant to initiate, which is not his forte. That is an Ime issue.
If he starts, than he can/will demand starter’s wages. It’s in his best interest to start and ours for him to come off the bench. He is going to paid, broken leg or not. Will /can /should we match his offer in free agency. He feels lowballed but set out with injuries that can’t be fixed long term for months at 20 + or - a year in his contract year. (It only get worst). Both his play and health are undeniable.
If he gets hurt again this year, he will not command 20+. If he balls out the rest of the year, we probably won’t match his RFA offers. I think Codman may be right and he is moved at the deadline. It will not only depend on how Tari is playing, but how Amen, Reed, and DFS are playing and where we are positioned in the standings. If the team gels offensively and Amen/Reed are handling the PG role adequately then I’m not sure what the purpose to trading Tari would be. If DFS is playing well and somebody offered you a 26 lottery pick then I think they probably jump on it, but that is highly unlikely.
