There are a lot of flashes of Amen making the right read. I don’t think we’re doing any favors to him with some of the coaching on the offensive end. Since he is a top, top-tier athlete sometimes he overcomes the spacing issues, but those still exist. Reed naturally sees the game. He needs a year or so to work on his ball handling, and the issue with him picking up his dribble has already been discussed and is valid. Reed makes very intelligent, basketball players routinely. These together are essentially your starting back court of the future and both our point guard and shooting guard at the same time in my opinion. I want to bring in a veteran point guard because I don’t believe we should waste a year of Durant waiting on VanVleet. That being said Reed and Amen will be fine in due time. I don’t love starting Tari. Obviously it upgrades the defense, but he makes too many stupid plays for my liking.
I thought Ime started Tari vs the Lakers bc he wanted a bigger guy on Luka. It might have been situational.
fwiw: Tari did admit the Sac loss was his fault. He says it in this interview, and also talks about what his rehab taught him about being responsible to the team for admitting to training staff when he’s sore.
It might have to be situational. I posted before that Tari got to 3 fouls pretty quickly even with a slow couple of guards. I wonder how Tari is going to work against quicker backcourts, however I would try it and see how he does. His shooting is sorely needed.
This is a narrative and perception that I believe is unfair. Some players are viewed as unintelligent for whatever reason. Durant makes terrible decisions passing the ball almost on a nightly basis especially with pressure. Same with Amen. Sheppard makes tons of dumb mistakes each game whether its chucking a long three for no reason or shooting an off balanced leaning pullup. But for some reason some players get a pass while others can’t shed the “dumb” perception. Tari’s defense, three point shooting , and ability to get in the paint negates any “dumb” play.
I have delusions of grandeur, I think I’ve seen Tari make all of the same plays that made Cooper Flagg the consensus #1 pick. I think he should be our 4th starter and forgiven for all mistakes he’s going to make. Let him play free and instinctively. Focus on making plays, not avoiding mistakes. The scoreboard has always liked him. I think time will fix the mistakes better than punishment will.
I agree on 90% that. I'm saying it does require certain players in the lineup, IN SPITE OF Ime lol. Cuz I'm not counting on Ime to adjust his offensive scheme I(As in: Amen & Reed need to improve, but Tari helps them better on that. Or a point guard helps everybody. When Ime himself wont). If it's the best of all worlds, were its both a key player in lineup AND Ime adjusts, then great. But we just can't count too much on Ime alone. (FWIW, it's been that Mathloom guy's constant point about Jalen Green. That it doesn't matter how good for bad Jalen is. Its he has potential that can get maximized better if I'me constructed better scheme for him) Instead of the Ime Demeco way of Adams grabbing 3 to 7 offensive misses a game to retain 2nd opportunities
Tari has guarded 1s and 2s before. This isn’t new. Most of it was on switches but sometimes he is assigned to defend the opposing team’s best guard. He’s defended guys like mitchell, SGA, Fox etc. He was assigned to guard SGA in the 2nd quarter of the first game this year and did a pretty good job. Past highlights: (last year but pretty good shot contest)
It’s overblown. He may commit a charge or throw the ball away but what player doesn’t? He is aggressive and runs well on the break. Brings a defensive aura to the lineup. Can get to the paint. And shoots the 3 great. Start the man.
