Coby White: $12.8M (expiring) Tre Jones: $8M (+$8M, +$8M, with last yr being team option) Ayo Dosunmu: $7.5M (expiring Jevon Carter: $6.8M (expiring) Collin Sexton: $18.9M (expiring) Dennis Schroder: $14.1M (+$14.8M, +$15.5M … I don’t know, Codman has “hinted” at him) Malik Monk: $18.7M (+$20.1M, +21.5M player option, not really a pg but reportedly made available) CJ McCollum: buyout only Jose Alvarado: $4.5M (+$4.5M player option) Ty Jerome: $8.7M (+$9.2M, +$9.6M player option; currently out injured) Scotty Pippen Jr.: $2.2M (+$2.4M, +$2.7M, neither year fully guaranteed, currently out injured) Scraping… Lonzo Ball: $10M (+$10M team option) D’Angelo Russell: $5.6M (+$5.9M player option) Chris Paul: $2.2M (expiring) Russell Westbrook: $2.2M (expiring) Tyus Jones: $7M (expiring) Cole Anthony: $2.2M (expiring) Because they’re hard capped, tight on money, don’t have many tradeable salaries (or guys you would necessarily want to trade), may have to settle on bringing one of these Rockets legends back. Or just admit you’re not a contender this year, that no PG acquisition is coming to save us, continue to run Reed/Amen/Sengun out there, and wait for Franchise Fred™ to return next year. Kevin Durant: not trading Alperen Şengün: probably not trading Fred VanVleet: can veto any trade Steven Adams: probably don’t want to trade (but $14.1M salary; +$13M, +$11.8M) Dorian Finney-Smith: hasn’t played ($12.7M salary; +$13.3M, +$13.3M, +$13.3M; not fully guaranteed) Jabari Smith Jr.: poison pill, not trading Reed Sheppard: probably don’t want to trade Amen Thompson: probably don’t want to trade Clint Capela: $6.7M (+$7M, +$7.3M) Tari Eason: $5.6M (RFA) Holiday/Okogie/Green/Tate: $2.2M minimum
I dont agree with much that you post, but CP seems to be closest answer to FVV in having an oncourt coach. He played all 82 games last year and averaged 9ppg/7apg on 28mpg. Can't tell me that he cant reproduce the same production as last year just cuz he's 1 year older.
I think that bringing guy like Schroder doesn’t contradict starting Reed. Schroder can be the main guy coming off the bench, together with Adams and Eason.
Never liked Schroeder. Not a great shooter or defender, which means he's a negative any time he's not dominating the ball. I prefer Aaron Holidays flaws as the backup. Role players shouldn't be useless without the ball.
Tyler Kolek, we need functional play. He is not going to be a savior but more of a bandaid. If we can find someone to eat minutes more than fix us we will be able to find success. Smaller moves is where Stone could grow. What would NYK need in return for a backup point on a rookie contract.
Makes me think the team should be giving Reed, Aaron, and JD all a legit shot at being PG but Ime refuses. Every time JD has played he's looked solid.
But what we need is a guy that can be WITH the ball. A guy that can get the ball, dribble without turnover. I’m sure you watched our last meltdowns vs. Kings and Pelicans. What we missed was a player that can handle the ball. Schroder is not the best shooter, but he’s a baller.
I get it but if in the pursuit of getting that guy as a backup we lose something more important - defense and spacing - then it's pointless. We'd be going in circles. The point is to get an upgrade, rather than swap problems. There are PG's who can at least be either a better shooter or defender. At $12m I expect a guy to be able to do more than one thing. It's not a lot to ask. I don't want to take more than a few minutes each from Reed and Amen so this PG will get 15-20 minutes. There are no minutes for Amen at SF (Tari/DFS/Bari) and Reed definitely can't guard up a position. Would much rather get CP3 for these 40 more games that we're missing FVV. Any of these two would be perfectly adequate for the actual role we have.
Chasing aging stars doesn’t seem wise to me but if we are trying to contend the next two seasons, Kyrie, Jrue or Harden have to be considered. Hate the Kyrie and Jrue contracts and I don’t know how to make the money work. But I can’t be confident of Fred coming back off injury next season in peak form and our biggest weakness is ball handling/floor general. either we step back and stick to the longer development timeline with our youth or we make an aggressive play to win in this 2-yr window. I don’t feel comfortable with either approach but I hate the 1st round playoff exit treadmill we appear to be on even more.
What do you think of moving Bari to the bench and Amen down to PF spot with Josh starting in backcourt with Reed? Josh can take toughest guard assignment and be in the corner for 3s on offense. Amen gets to play the dunker spot where he's lethal. With Bari and Tari coming off the bench we get some firepower and defensive spark. Just trying to think through another rotation, because I think we need to shake it up a bit.
I can’t think of any PG that would be reasonable except Jrue. Maybe a dark horse would be Marcus Smart, but i havent watched him in a few years, idk how much is left in his tank
