With all the difficulties our team recently experience, one issue that we’ll need to resolve asap is getting ourselves a point guard. It doesn’t have to be even an AS level guy, just a decent pg that can take the burden off Amen, KD and Reed - they are not suited to handle the ball for 48 minutes, especially when the games are close. One suggestion thar I thought of, which also passes in espn trade machine, is for Dennis Schroder. Sac are not going anywhere, but Schroder is a nice experienced guard that can really help us. We can either send away - 1. dfs + tyler smith + a pick if necessary, or - 2. Capela, Eason and tyler smith - in this case though I wouldn’t add picks. The rationale that leads me is that either way, Eason and dfs barely played. Sending one of them won’t change much. Meanwhile, Fred’s absence creates difficulties, but he won’t be easy to trade. Besides, I wouldn’t mind having next season Schroder in addition to Fred and Reed. Basically, this is the type of player Stone should have pursued in the summer. Your thoughts? You may suggest other types of trades, but please check first with espn trade machine that it’s possible.
Knowing Ime - he probably won’t let him play much, like he didn’t play much with rookie Reed last season (although jd is not a rookie, yet he doesn’t hane much experience). But if you hand him veteran then he’ll probably trust him more and play him.
Mavs found Ryan Nembhard undrafted FA. Why couldn't Stone look for a competent PG after FVV went down?
That’s a VERY good question. He’s grade for the last off-season moves is really degrading as this season progresses.
because they sent Amen to train with SGA trainer and got fooled into thinking he actually developed a jumper … teams sagging off him and Okogie or Adams or Alpi just clogs the midrange and paint area which then makes KD useless, combine that with we attempting way less 3s than the rest of the league … yeah we can win rebounding and paint points … but other teams are now beating us simply by double and sometimes tripling our 3pt attempts (it’s the real reason GS beat us last year in playoffs)
I’d like to see Ime actually let Reed play pg more and not be relegated to being a spot up shooter. If you look at last season Fred was third on the team in usage behind Jalen and Sengun. They initiated a ton of offense. Fred would likely be behind KD, Amen, and Sengun as far as running the offense. My concern is that even if they did get a Schroeder or Cp3 (or even if we still had Fred) a lot of our possessions would still look similar. Especially with the team actively wanting Amen to initiate more and Jabari wanting to “expand his game”…. Unless we get someone like Harden I just don’t think a guy like cp3 or Schroeder would move the needle much because Ime hasn’t reeled these guys in and they are all kind of taking it upon themselves to run offense. If we get Schroeder is Sengun going to defer to him to set the offense when we need a bucket? Is KD? Is Amen going to get his ass in the Dunker spot? Is Jabari going to stop taking more than 3 dribbles and settle into being a super role player? Too many guys trying to “take the next step” and not enough guys who know their role….and are willing to just be role players. Maybe for some guys they’d falll back, but I don’t think Schroeder or CP3 are those guys. I’d like to see how the offense looks with Ime reeling these guys in and letting Reed initiate more but he doesn’t have the cache or the nuts to do it himself. Would take the coaches to direct these guys to scale it back some and settle into roles they are better suited for.
These (3) players are "practical" for all intents and purposes. Davion Mitchell (Jan 15th) Colby White (FA '26), CJ Mcollum (Salary matching and Roster Compliance issues) I really like Mitchell who fits our defensive identity and won't take shots from others but his 2 year deal screws up the FVV DPE. That said, you can get really close with only Capela, Holiday, and Tate which I don't mind losing at all. His AST(leading league) might be the key to unlocking our scorers. Convince MIA for WAS 2nd Rd pick and I'm sold!!! That's my "practical" pick.
I really don't understand what the problem was with starting Reed and Amen in the backcourt. We were playing great, Reed just had one bad quarter in Minny and Udoka freaked out. I do want a better backup PG but I still want Reed to start over Okogie. Our offense improved a lot more than our defense took a step back. I'm also starting to wonder if Tari is a better fit as a starter than Jabari. We're missing athleticism too. Sengun/Durant/Jabari/Reed are not really athletic. Okogie is ok. We're not dynamic like we used to be. A lot of things to play with before making a serious acquisition. I don't think Ime would be happy with #1 offense and #10 defense but that would actually be an amazing thing to build on while we wait for DFS to return.
I don't think he is someone that will lead the team, just spot duty when double teams are present. Same with KD - I also don't believe Ime values offense, and his clap clap play harder bullshit will hamper this team until we get a coach that knows how to make proper adjustments. DD
