Well for years I've been saying (and I think Clutch even suggested it a year or two ago as well) that the organization could really use a seasoned respected voice in the organization that has coached at the highest level, and also carries those key relationships across the league.

I think the theoretical example was Rudy T coming in as the president of bball operations or something like that. Obviously Rudy T's health might not allow for that, but someone like that. Someone who can get on the phone with Danny Ainge if Stone and Patrick Fertitta are struggling to make a trade happen, and can come in and have that trusted relationship on the other end of the phone.

And with Ime, a guy who can pull Ime aside after a game and tell him to try some different things, cool him down, and maybe be a mentor more than anything. That person doesn't need to be on the bench or running every practice getting in his way. But some mentor figure that is around the coaches and can pressure test them a bit, or simply be that voice of reason in a credible way that an Owner like Tillman Fertitta never could.

I personally think THAT is what is needed. Who is that Rudy T type of figure that could come in and be that guy for Stone and Ime???... I dunno, but I personally think it is needed.

To be fair though, a lot of that is on Fertita. A professional organization should own more than a single set of locker room keys, but they should also have an entertaining halftime show and not resort to playing musical chairs with the mascot. There's plenty of blame to go around.

Udoka is from the line of Pat Riley Knicks days/JVG/Thibs line of coaching. Their strengths is that they get the players buy-in to play hard, play lots of minutes, play defense, etc. Their weaknesses is that everything looks hard on the court and require players to fully utilize their talents to get buckets. Rather than gaming easy points for them. These coaches can be successful for sure. JVG, Riley, and Udoka all made the finals. Thibs made the conference finals multiple times. But the issue is that there's always a shelf life with these type of coaching, and other than Riley, they all had the most playoff success in the East during a time when East mostly sucked outside of LeBron teams. And you don wonder if this style can carry a team in the West to a title.

Ime is a good coach, not a great one, he is constantly outcoached in late game situations.

He is stubborn and refuses to move on from bad ideas like double big - which are situational at best.

And, worst of all he continue to try to make a 37 year old KD a playmaker when that ship sailed more than a decade ago.

A lot of y'all just have the cause and effect backwards....

The Rockets certainly want Amen and Sengun to be better shooters, they certainly want our young core to have taken a larger offensive leap, and they certainly don't want to be missing 3 rotation players from the lineup (1 lead guard and 2 3&D wings/forwards). You think we would have signed Capela if Adams wasn't a younger, less injured version of himself? You think they want to put a larger load on KD to wear him down? Play this many MPG?

We are less than 1/3 into this season and have time to work out the kinks. It's not just crunch time offense, we are losing entire 4th quarters and 2nd half offensively and defensively.

Yep. The biggest problem on the team is one that's more difficult to address: FVV's ACL. Maybe Stone gets something done by the deadline without giving up too much in return.

100% Ime is the biggest weakness of this team. He's simply an incompetent in game coach. There's other things he does very well, and people tend to focus on them while ignoring his fatal flaws, but IMO you just can't look past them as they continue to cause the team to lose games.

I'm not gonna say he's our biggest weakness because he's still a great defensive coach.
I would say getting KD on our team has exposed Ime's weakness in drawing up good offensive sets and getting easier baskets for our players...he did take our team from being a joke in the NBA to #2 last season.
We're trying to make Amen play point guard (which is the hardest position to learn & master), Reed is finally getting playing time and is forced to play point guard (in college Rob Dillingham handle more of the point guard duties), and we're relying more on KD/Sengun to initiate the offense which is not playing into their strength...the FVV injury is definitely a huge impact on our team. Hate it or not, but FVV was the player on our team to calm the waters when our team started to play erratic. We could've used FVV in those Kings and Pelicans games when we started to choke.
To keep our roster/core intact, it wouldn't hurt to trade for CP3.
If we can get DFS healthy in January, I would trade Tate, Holiday, or Okogie for CP3...those three players would become expendable with a healthy DFS and Tari in rotation

Can we stop with this nonsense? Ime has been a very good coach since taking the helm and he turned this team around. Spending 2nd and 3rd rounders on Jalen and Bari didn’t turn the team around. Ime turned the team around.

Is he perfect? No. Do his rotations and lineups frustrate me sometimes? Yes. Do I wish we had more of an Adleman-like offensive system? Yes. But is Ime trying to win without a point guard and/or legit ball handlers on the floor? Yes.

it’s not just one thing. The coach is an easy scapegoat. I think he has some fault and responsibility, but it’s not as simple as replacing the coach. We had some roster construction failures. Tari has been hurt, DFS has been unavailable. Fred’s obviously gone. We’ve got a superstar who is still trying to get comfortable. We are trying to maximize a young Reed Shepard’s talent without being too exposed defensively. Amen is playing out of position. Capela is completely washed.

There’s a lot going on. Mistakes were made. And we are gonna keep making some. But Ime has the capacity to learn from mistakes. I’ve seen it. And while there may not be a solution to the roster configuration gaps, I have confidence Ime will find a way to get the best out of the active roster. If we look bad in February I’ll be more critical.
