    Several things -

    - Short term resolution of the PG position...Reed is obviously on his way, but, for this year...we need to add another guard that can handle it and make plays, while sometimes playing as much as 25 - 26 minutes. So, we're not breaking the bank...a Brogdon type. Reed needs to play, but we can't ignore this.

    - DFS finally getting out there. He's a serious piece that takes the sting out of moving....Tari.

    - I feel like it's a foregone conclusion that Tari's gone in a deal for a target/targets that help us a lot. We just can't count on him staying on the court.

    - Deadline moves and Buyout candidates

    - Organic growth from our youngins...Sengun, Amen, and Reed have ridiculous upside. And, Jabari is coming along nicely...contrary to what some might believe. At minimum, he's a solid decade long starter at the 4.

    - Ime - He might be hard headed, the rotations sometimes whack, and in need an offensive assistant, but he'll make significant progress. Udoka should grow with these guys, as clear chemistry/flow forms..

    - That chemistry will come with time....Let's get everything in place....no need to sweat this much early, it was always gonna be about peaking late in the season.

    - There's also the FVV situation. One way or another, I think he's played his last game as a Rocket..All the concern about him not opting in...overblown. We have more flexibility there than imagined.

All in all, our late season upside is outta sight.
    Don't worry, be happy.
    We'll get there.
    Go Rockets!

If we think Reed is the future PG of the team and should be starting next year after some experience and growth, do we take a flyer on a rental guard this year?

I would assume so. KD is here, and I'd like to see Reed remain in his sixth man role for now.

Not something you just learn in a season. Ime doesn’t know offensive plays and most of our guys panic in the end & go into iso ball. We are 2-3 years away from being 4 years away.

Great post overall. I only think you rounded up a bit optimistically in two spots.

Over a long time, I've seen huge uncertainty in trade results. Just sticking in player X onto team Y just has enormous variability. Scottie Quitten is just one bad example, but if we trade Tari, we may just end up with a little draft capital or at least I don't think we can count on a helpful piece. If we got a pass-first guard for him, that would be interesting for the 2nd unit and some 4th quarters in the playoffs, maybe? Not sure who that would be though.

I am with you in giving hope a chance. Most humans, particularly men and men in sports, don't change their mentalities very much after age 40 or so. Ime is pushing 50, I believe. Just my 2 cents. I like him more than a lot of critics on here, but I don't expect him to change a whole lot.

I hope you're right about getting another guard. It is very clear to me that our lack of point guard play is what's hurting us the most. We need one badly, but I'm not sure we'll get one.

The type of player you'd move Tari Eason for - a high energy guy who can defend small-to-big and also who can hit the corner 3 - is - Tari Eason.

If Ime is hell-bent on playing heavy ISO ball, then the team needs an engine who can consistently create for himself and his teammates. Unfortunately, those types of players are all-stars and superstars. Cannot expect this current roster to freestyle on offense to a level that is conducive to winning consistently, especially in crunch time. While a Brogdon-type player would surely help, it does not move the needle enough to be considered a contender.

2nd round exit if we're lucky. That's how much better we'll get - unless there is a juicy trade.

You might trade him for someone like DFS too.

    Oh.
