Who was the last OC that Texans fans didn’t hate? Bob? Slowic? Pep Hamilton? Caley? Kubiak? Tim Kelly? Godsey? All of them, grown to hate. I can’t think of one.
I think any time the offense isn't humming along, the first target seems to always be the OC. For a while in the peak Schaub years, Kubiak was pretty insulated from criticism but even then there was a minority that hated him for being too simplistic. It's basically a bottom line thing. As an OC, be one of the best offenses in the league, or you're **** at your job. Doesn't matter if you don't have the personel or they screw up and can't execute on the field. Everybody's a backseat driver and sees something they'd do different, unless everything works.
My point exactly, So all an OC can do is stick to the system he believes in and in Caley's system it takes awhile to learn. CJ is slowly but surely learning the system and to take what's there. Caley's actually done a pretty good job IMHO since the system is new, he's missing his stud RB and he's working with a Rookie LT/ An OG that's really a RT/ Basically a rookie C/ A castoff reject at RG/ A long in the tooth RT that is playing on a bad leg, has a broken finger and has movement issues because of weight/injury. This doesn't even take into account the te TE position cant block worth a crap. Yeah, add some talent and I think Caley will start to shine.
- some QBs have talented OCs that scheme guys open, that's their first read - some QBs read the defense and change the play or know who the first read should be based on the defense
It certainly doesn’t tell the whole story. Some QB’s know where to go with the ball and it’s considered their “first” read. At worst this shows that Stroud has been really good this year at getting through progressions which some in here claimed he was incapable of doing.
Sooo conservative and inaccurate. I remember his rookie year even before the cameras got to the receiver that it would be a dot to their hands
Stroud needs to play better, but he is far from alone. We had 83 yards rushing today. That's not good enough. Our run blocking is horrific. I blame a lot of that on Caserio because he's had multiple off-seasons to address this and has failed to do so. Wide Receiver. It's not good enough. Jayden Higgins had one reception today. I can only surmise that Caserio's #1 pick in last year's draft can't get open. Christian Kirk made some plays today but he's been up and down but mostly down all season. We can only hope that Tank Dell will have a miraculous recovery and rejoin the offense next season. Our tight ends are garbage. Cade Stover can't block and is only mediocre as a receiver. Our OL didn't give up a sack today. However, their run blocking continues to be poor. Some of Nick Casey's play-calls are horrific. Again, I assign a lot of responsibility to Nick Caserio's failure to draft or sign better players at OL, TE, and WR.
Yeah I think this is a big problem. The offense is simply not talented enough to be consistently good. The Oline is lacking talent first of all and second of all we don't really have many weapons that scare other teams outside of Nico. I don't think teams go "Oh boy, gotta stop Schultz this week!" It's just Nico, that's it. If you stop Nico there's a good chance you've stopped Stroud and our running game has been below average all year. Not sure what ever happened to Mixon.
As much as I love CJ, those throws in the first quarter were just bad, now he did light it up in the 4th but this offense has to play PERFECT for the scheme to work and with this O Line (which is improved) we just don't have the "talent" Scores across the league were all pretty close yesterday so a win is a win no matter how we get them BUT I am not sure how far we get with this group
Rookie wide receivers rarely break out. I still think Higgins and Noel are pretty strong picks. Most of the year, Stroud hasn’t had time to go through progressions. Higgins not getting separation is a concern, but a lot could be scheme as well.
