Astros weren't a finalist but King stays in San Diego. Signs 3 years, $75 mil. Opt outs in his contract.

Pretty risky deal for SD. A Tommy John surgery in June 2026 would flush like $60M.

For me the opt outs really paint it as either $25M/1yr or $75M/1yr. Way too much downside.

Total and complete speculation: the Astros are running down talks with the Rays and Royals and a deal to add a good SP will get done before Christmas.

Burrows had decent results last season, but if far from proven.

He does have a lot of team control left, and if I trust this franchise on anything it's pitchers they think can do well. If we're trading prospects long term pitchers is where I want it going.

I've never got the Melton hype, so seeing him go wouldn't concern me, Brito could be one you look back and regret.

It sucks losing Brito, but the Rays love to acquire very good defensive OFs that can't hit.

I’m not 100% sure Burrows is better than Arrighetti but he comes with 5 seasons of control and we gotta trust the front office and coaches’ on pitching evaluation. Nothing jumps out about Burrows numbers, his savant page points to really good movement on his pitches and good velo but he got barreled at a high rate. Brito is a very very good prospect so it’s a high cost.

Between Arrighetti, Burrows, Javier, and Weiss, Houston will probably be ok in the 3-5 spots (with lots of potential help in AAA in Pecko, Ullola, Blubaugh, Gordon, and Alexander). But they still need a really good #2 if they’re gonna be considered contenders.

Burrows can control the strike zone, Arrigheti can not. That makes him already better. He's likely a good #3. This is a good trade for the Astros overall.

This feels like we’re getting fleeced. I understand trades hurt sometimes but giving that package up for Burrows feels like a pretty decent overpay.

Getting a decent starter for Melton, who hasn't done **** with us, and Brito seems like an even deal. It might hurt with Brito, but I'm ok with it.

It’s a big time sellers/agents market. Prices are high. Houston HAS to add starting pitching. This at least gives them 5 viable SP and lets them be a little more opportunistic looking for a #2. This also makes it more reasonable for Houston to include Arrighetti in a potential trade for somebody like Ragans.

If Brito hadn’t looked so good in the AFL this trade would look great for Houston.
