I was listening to 610 this morning and they were talking about Chicago fishing around for publicly financed improvements or a new stadium. It's now the rule rather than the exception.

There is a fundamental change in who benefits from a Sports Stadium. Initially, the idea was that it provided the common man entertainment and this was the key to a public expenditure. I believe that has changed since a common man cannot afford to attend a game anymore, even if he can get a ticket. It is entertainment for the elite and they need no subsidies and do not deserve them.

Isn't Gary, and the northwestern portion of Indiana closest to Chicago fairly ghetto?

The Texans are well within the top 10 of most valuable NFL teams, I believe. They have absolutely no debt…none at all. Y’all figure it out. I don’t want to lose another team, but the economic impact argument is absolute nonsense…particularly for a football stadium that hosts about 9 games per year.

Everything I understand of Gary, IN, is reading biographies of Michael Jackson…and it seems not great.

All I know is it was a nice song that Opey sang in the Music Man.

Houston needs a new venue, multiplex; shopping restaurants, etc. NRG is outdated and other than the 9 - 10 dates of NFL Football and the Rodeo, nothing else is there.

They need to tear down the dome and build an attraction there to make the facility more of a year around attraction.

I think you should pay for it then. We don’t fund schools anymore. Read an article earlier today that Ft Bend ISD is gonna have to close down elementary schools soon, because they don’t have enough money to operate them anymore..I’m very aware that we have school districts in Harris County dealing with the same.

You can tell me those dollars are coming from a different pot…but you can’t tell me it’s ok to build stadiums for privately held family companies to the tune of a billion dollars when we don’t even fund our own schools adequately.

No one is ever going shopping at NRG’s facility unless it’s game day, and someone wants a tshirt. Come on. Not happening.

Our state leadership is garbage. Until we fund schools, I am not voting to approve building **** for people who can clearly afford it.

It's been designated a historic building, so it would be better repurposed as parking so large parts of the land can be repurposed to a multiplex. It's location near the Medical Center with a "trolly" service along Main Street makes it strategic.

I agree. The County, who owns the Dome, has completed it's asbestos remediation. So everything from this point forward should be by private development and financing.

I'm sorry, but Public Schools are as crooked as DC when it comes to inefficiency. More money will only encourage the bastards. Make the current budget and spending transparent and efficient first.

My wife is a teacher in a public school. My older son is too, and a coach. You’re insanely wrong, but Go Texans

I also knew I could count on you for this :)

I get what you're saying and I agree with you, but school districts are top heavy, if they start to use their resources better then I'm on board.

Ft bend is closing elementary schools because the funding they get isn’t enough. It’s by design, clearly, but holy **** imagine having to close down elementary schools in one of the fastest growing areas in the country..and then ask people to give Cal McNair a billion dollars.

Won’t suprise me at all if that happens…but holy ****, man. Cal ****ing McNair needs SugarLand to pay for his stadium while Fort Bend ISD is closing down elementary schools because they don’t have enough to operate them. Dystopia. That’s bullshit.

I would suggest that, if you’re right, Harris County needs to prioritize that first, before we collectively fund the McNair family’s new venue. I bet we agree on that.

I've taught there too, but the bulk of the money never reaches campus.I couldn't handle it when I was reprimanded for breaking up a fight. I just can't look the other way.
