After another horrific shooting, more Thoughts and prayers are apparently what folks are calling for. Yea let's just ignore that the recent shooting took place at a church where the victims were already praying.
It does give me a sort of perverse appreciation for second amendment rights folks. I'm pretty anti-gun and if I could wave a magic wand to erase the second amendment from the Constitution I would do it. But in an era where I see people willingly surrendering our civil rights to Trump left and right, I have some grudging respect for the gun rights people who will not budge even in the face of our kids getting slaughtered. Not that I want our kids killed, but I wish we had that much commitment to our other rights.

Names of the victims were not immediately released pending the notification of family. Authorities received multiple reports of a shooting just before 1 a.m. Upon arriving, deputies found a large crowd, with several suffering from gunshot wounds. At the time of the shooting, the Sheriff’s Office said hundreds of people were at the bar, and multiple victims and witnesses ran to nearby businesses and properties seeking shelter. Beaufort County EMS transported four victims to area hospitals in critical condition. At least 20 people were shot. Additional victims continued to arrive at the hospital on their own to be treated for injuries. The Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that it is investigating “persons of interest” and asked the public to contact Investigator Master Sergeant Duncan at 843-255-3418 with information. Now do the other ten victims. I have a buddy who has a son at Brown. He was studying in the library next to the Engineering building. Heard shots and saw two victims on the sidewalk in front of the library. They barricaded a room, had police pointing guns at them, moved to the basement, and eventually the gym. No food for over 12 hours. I don't know if this was his floor, but it sounds like his experience was similar.
The only thing we know for sure about the shooter is that he or she is a gun nut. Because all mass shooters are gun nuts. Anyhoo, thought and prayers.
