Amens making more. Not his fault Senguns agent was having hummus and hookah on a yacht during the deal. Stone took advantage of drunk Sengun. @Snow Villiers
No need to trade him. I trust Stone to negotiate a fair extension. Between the aprons and restricted free agency, I'm not worried about Amen leaving on his own accord. But would I trade him? Sure, if the return was appropriate. He's very valuable, but in his third year when you would expect a leap his shooting has regressed. That tells me he's near his ceiling now.
You basically have 3 options 1. Trade him 2. 5 year max 3. Let him go to RFA and match a 3+1 max What would you choose?
I kinda pretty much feel the same about Amen - But you do want to take advantage of what he does so well in attacking the rim in transition and before a half court defense gets set. You can let him run after a rebound and you can let him run after a made bucket and probe the defense but if nothing is there, he needs to give it up and assume the dunkers spot where he can do all the things he does excel at - slashing & cutting, being a lob threat and rebounding. What you don't want at this point is him attacking a set defense or trying to be the offensive initiator, leave that to Amen / Durant and to a lesser degree Shepard.
I have no idea why you think Amen would demand a max or why anyone would offer him a max. You can't find one single guard or wing in NBA history who was paid a max while shooting under 25% from 3. Even Westbrook has averaged over 30% from 3 for his career, and despite having been paid the max no one ever built a contender around him. So I reject your options. That being said, I would definitely trade him in a package for Giannis. I would offer Amen, Fred, DFS, Capela, and any 3 picks the Bucks would want. Apart from that, I would hold on to him and take him to restricted free agency if necessary.
Right now Amen is hitting 25-30% on his midrange (depending on definition) and 20% from 3, PG Amen isn't beating those Ben Simmons allegations. In a more proper role, I think he absolutely could deserve a max, but right now every time Amen shoots the ball from further than 8 feet from the rim it might as well be a turnover. That's not what you want from an on ball player. Will he get better? Maybe? That's still a dangerous gamble on a max. Now, I think there's a case that the Rockets have no choice but to take that gamble, but it's not something we should be all that happy about.
Any young team (nets, wizards, etc.) would immediately give him a max offer sheet. It’s honestly hard to tell if some of these comments are just a bit or genuinely real.
You want to get real? Go look at Ben Simmons' stats for his 3rd year in the league and tell me how Amen is better than him.
The best way to learn is from other people's mistakes. You can max out guys who can't shoot, but you can't build a contender that way, especially in the apron era.
Amen isnt making the max when he only averaging 17/5/5 on 54.8 TS% and he cant even shoot. He has to be an all star to get the max thats non negotiable. I know fans here say give him the max but those are not max numbers sorry to say. Here's a question is Ausar getting the max? No? Then Amen wont get the max because his nos are just slightly better than Ausar. Amen 17/7/5, 54.8% TS Ausar 11/6/3, 54.6% TS Oh but Amen scores 6 more pts, thats huge. Except they have around the same efficiency, Amen just takes a lot more shots. And I am a big Amen stan, said from day 1 I like him over Wemby. But if he doesnt take that leap and only stays at this level no way he deserves a max and I doubt other teams would pay him the max either. Which non center who cant shoot got the max nowadays? Havent seen any rookie extension like that lol. Times have changed since Ben Simmons and Simmons himself was a 3 time all star thats why he got maxxed.
He's as valuable to winning as Alpi and KD overall. Checkout his BPM and Net Rating. He has 5.2 assists at 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio Second to KD in FT% among starters He's shooting 49% FG% compared compared to Alpi and KDs 50% His 3 FG% is dismal but atg 2 attempts per game he's not chucking this team out of games. Even Giannis was shotting .25 on threes on his 3rd year He needs to work on his jumper. But I believe it's just being thrown as the starting PG in FVVs shoes.. https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?CF=TEAM_ABBREVIATION*E*HOU&dir=A&sort=FT_PCT https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?CF=TEAM_ABBREVIATION*E*HOU&dir=A&sort=TS_PCT I would prefer Amen get paid something similar to Alpi But if Stone ends up giving him more or even the max I won't be terribly mad He and Alpi are winning culture cornerstones
This is Ben Simmons, who got paid the max, while shooting under 25% from 3? Kind of defeated your own argument pretty quickly! *I have no idea what Amen will get paid, but it wouldn't surprise me if he got a max offer sheet tabled from someone.
Yeah they are similar in shooting efficiency and atheleticism but winning basketball is more than that Was Ausar thrown to be the teams starting PG? Does Ausar lead his team's starters in BPM and Net Rating? Is he 2nd in assists with a 2 to 1 turnover ratio? And I'm not gonna base paying a player max on being an all-star
