He's definitely had trouble finishing this year. Teams definitely do sag off him too. He has been way too passive attacking offensively though. I think it has to do with him thinking about being a PG and forgetting that he can get a good shot at the rim more often than not. I think that is going to change as the year goes on. He was so aggressive against sac. Thats where we need him. As for the jumper...I can't tell you I know its going to come around, but I think he is more like to be a guy that develops one than someone who doesn't. The mechanics aren't terrible.
You guys are nuts. Amen will get the rookie max extension and when that extension is up he’ll get the max, max. If the Rockets don’t pay it every other team in the league will try to get the money to do it. The only caveat to that is injury. Of course, you can make these outlandish assessments on a guy that has even started a full season of basketball in his career and is 22 years old. It’s beyond silly.
I don't think he deserves the max just based on his current offensive capabilities, no. I agree with you there. For his offense + defense + future potential combined though? Absolutely. Where we do disagree a bit is that I think he has shown signs of being able to be a primary initiator on offense. Whether he'll reach that possible ceiling will depend on whether he can fix his jump shot in real games and tighten up his handle a bit more.
Why is that gonna crush us? If he signed for the max last time why would sign for less than the max this time? His play has gotten better not worse so why does giving him the max before siddenly mean he wont get the max now? It doesnt make any sense to me rather because he signed for less than max the first time there is now a non zero chance he also signs for a bit less than his new max.
If somebody offers him the max then Rox should match. However I dont think Rox should offer him that max himself let him be RFA and take that risk.
Sengun after his 3rd season wasnt an all star thats why he didnt sign a max extension. Amen also isnt an all star yet so why would he be diff from Sengun? Amen is worse than Sengun last season, Sengun is the offensive hub and can be the heart of the offense. Amen right now is more of an individual scorer/transition scorer and cant shoot or provide spacing. Sengun last year was the first option and the guy we used as the closer. Amen right now having his worst efficiency and usually cockblocked by opponent zone.
I think a lot of posters here arent realising Amen is only scoring at 53.4% TS. For a guy who rarely shoots from mid range and 3 thats nowhere near max. Sengun for example 58% TS and he is the 1st/2nd option teams always focus on him or KD. Amen the 3rd guy ans he is even less efficient than Sengun lol
This is not a debate. He’s our franchise player and one of the most unique talents in the nba. He gets the max.
Sengun is more unique than him Amen literally has a twin. If only one guy is the franchise player thats Sengun not Amen this isnt even a debate. Sengun a lock for the Allstar Amen wont even be 2nd team All NBA.
No, I mean there’s a decent likelihood he’ll qualify for the supermax in 2029, so he’ll jump up to 35% of our cap a year earlier than a typical five year contract.
It's just such an outlier for his young career in a small sample size though. You'd expect his efficiency to drop somewhat in higher usage role, but I don't think it being this low is his true talent level. I think it's some combination of a slump / bad luck / adjusting to his new role. The TS% will come back up as the season goes on, and his scoring average with it.
Lets hope so, but like I said unless it goes up he aint max worthy. And I am a big Amen stan, said I would take him over Wemby day 1 of the draft till today.
Almost as silly as dying on a hill that a team with championship aspirations doesn't need a point guard. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
No, he isn't the franchise player. To think that is laughable. But yes, he absolutely deserves the max based on the NBA landscape.
20/9/8 on 8 of 12. +8 in a 2 point win (the only starter with a positive +/-). Helluva fourth option, eh @Reeko?
Safe to say Amen needed the time off. We need more of this kind of production. He was rebounding, wheeling and dealing from the start.
What he deserves right now is something between Jabari and Sengun. Now didn’t check what the market will look like when his contract is due, but I don’t think he has as much leverage as folks think. I don’t think contending teams will roll the carpet for him due to his offensive limitations, and with any other team he’s going through a 4 - 5 year rebuild with them so not sure how attractive that option will be for him.
