When Reed is playing at his peak version of himself, I forget all about FVV but that version of Reed jsut doesn’t show up consistently. At this point I officially miss FVV. So far again the best competition we played on our schedule so far, the biggest reason for our losses is turnovers and offensive efficiency.
You might go with a Mike Conley type at this point which is FVV. Want to take a look at the buyout market first.
We are fourth in the league in Net difference, with a team that is still learning how to play together after an extreme makeover and who 4 out of their five best players are under the age of 24. Turnovers don’t really concern me if we are top 5 in offense and defense. I’d rather be a top 5 offensive with a lot of turnovers, than a low turnover offense like last year and suck on that side of the floor. I do believe the offensive efficiency will improve as the team adjusts to their new roles and teammates. As usual in the NBA, injuries and the refs will play a huge role in the ultimate outcome of this season, but I like our chances. Fans will be fans and we will wring our hands with each loss and make monstrous claims of greatness when we blow somebody out. I, for one, am pleased that we will be in the conversation for a championship over the course of the next 10 years or so (although I might not last that long).
I'd rather be a better offense with less turnovers along with a better defense than a top 5 offense with a lot of turnovers.
Me too! We can do it and will improve as the team progresses. We should never revert back to the dribble, dribble, dribble chuck offense of last year. I really hope we can curb the Durant iso offense down to when we really need it.
Considering the Rockets have added Durant, got rid of Green, and had a lot of internal improvement, the Rockets won't revert back to your narrative if FVV gets healthy. As such, I take your agreement as endorsement for wanting FVV to be healthy and back in the starting lineup.
Fred off the bench would be a godsend. It's the perfect role for him aka one that won him a championship.
There is really no need for panic and try to get a ball handling vet. Before the season started, I did think they should shore up the backcourt depth. Now that we are winning, we really don't need to tinker the roster. We just need to develop the young players, find the right mix, and let the chemistry grow. There is really no point in getting a minimum kind of guy who is only slightly better than Holiday or Reed. If we get someone who is better than FVV, then we are going to have a logjam when FVV is back and presumably Reed is much improved. Besides, getting a player better than FVV won't be cheap. I am not willing to give up any players/assets to get a band aid when we aren't even hurting in terms of W-L.
We certainly don’t need a ball handler or someone slightly better than Reed. I do think it would be wise to obtain another guard that can shoot and play decent defense if available without giving up one of our rotation players. Reed or Okogie insurance would be nice to have. I have no idea who that might be and I don’t want anyone that would disrupt our development of the young players. Expiring contracts only please.
Hot take: Reed is already better than FVV. This isn't meant as a slam for FVV as I think game managers that play great defense (even if it is more off-ball than POA) add value....just not as much as a high volume, incredibly accurate 3 point shooter who can do some playmaking. Hot take No. 2: Having more good players is generally better. Getting a better player than Reed on the minimum? Sign me up. I've seen way too many posts lately basically saying "don't want good players" or don't want players with a specific skill such as playmaking. OKC is doing just fine with a lot of guys that can dribble, pass, shoot, and defend (or at least 3 of them). Hot take No. 3: Durant and Sengun have been the best offensive players for the Rockets this season. Way too many posts down on KD's offense.* *I thought I was one of the lower people (other than those that don't want anyone over 25) on KD. I really did not expect I would need to say KD is good at basketball, as I thought it would be said enough by others. PS. KD is good at basketball.
He is good at basketball, he is an all-time great. I am curious how the team is going to fit. At times, the offense seems to flow better when he is not playing Iso ball and he plays it a lot. I’d actually like to see him spot up more and average about 30 mins a game. We can be a great team with our starting five all averaging between 15 and 22 points. Durant is the closer we need, but balance is better for this particular team than one superstar going for 26 or more a night.
FVV is just more consistent overall, but I know what you mean. I think Reed will figure out the consistency but it's not going to be this season.
Overall he is consistent because of the defense. He had a good offensive first season at 45% 2p and 39% 3p and followed it up with a poor shooting season.
