THIS THREAD BEGINS AND ENDS WITH BILL DORAN AND I WILL NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER GOOD NIGHT GENTLEMEN
(I grew up wanting to play 2B for the Astros. Stupid Biggio took my spot so I went to law school instead). Also I’m just kidding, Craig, I love you so much.
Best franchise since the Astros became a franchise? Can't think of one better. I'd have to look at the NYY Me wanting to be Glen Davis and you at 2B would have been sweeeet
Blast from the past. A very good friend of mine in High School became Glen Davis' neighbor when they both lived in Richmond. I never forgave him for not inviting me over to meet Glen.
Per fangraphs, Astros/Colt 45s have had 24 players listed as a 2B who got at least 500PAs with the team. Career fWAR Morgan 98.8 Biggio 65.8 Altuve 60.0 Kent 56.0 Fox 45.2 Doran 29.9 Runnels 28.3 Garner 28.2 Menke 26.6 Loretta 19.0 Howe 13.6 Helms 7.9 Aledmys Diaz 7.8 Dubon 6.6 Matsui 5.3 (+ 17 seasons in foreign leagues with all-star level career numbers) Vizcaino 5.1 Keppinger 3.9 Candaele 3.1 Gotta 1.3 Pankovits 1.0 Burke 0.8 Landestoy 0.5 Andrews 0.5 Julio Gonzalez -1.5
Their WAR while on the Astros would also be interesting. Also, I wonder how many games Garner played at 2b for the Astros. I know he played 2B for the Pirates but I thought he was primarily at 3b with the Astros. I guess his 1st couple of seasons in Houston would be when he logged most of his appearances at 2b. Before Doran, where my memory isn’t trustworthy anymore. ok my lazy ass finally looked it up. 1982 is what puts Garner on this list.
