You think David Mills would have evaded all that pressure and made the throws that CJ did to score points? Hah ok bud.
I would prefer Maye throwing that deep ball to Nico Sunday night. CJ's nowhere near as accurate as he was his rookie year, or currently as accurate a thrower of the football as Maye is this year. Ryan's even said he wishes CJ had lead Nico on that bomb.
Context as mentioned as to why QB's may not look as good year to year.... while others get better with certain situations. Nix has Payton (and still makes his fair share of bad throws/decisions) Maye has McDaniels (and a great line... that just lost their best protector so we shall see how that impacts things as their schedule gets tougher). Every QB requires coaching/line help, moreso in the developmental stage than other. The fact that he was elite as a rookie, without the happy feet, without as much inaccuracies (with his completion % better now?) further cements this point.
We're going to have to pat a QB more than 10 million. Who that is...nit sure but certainly don't want to pay CJ. He's probably tradable
Don't take the trolls too seriously, it's never a good idea. Let people like and hate who they want, go read some of the utter trash people were saying about Reed in his thread, it's all the same crap.
Let's extrapolate CJ's performance against team of Maye's caliber... The Patriots opponents win % for the year is 38%. Maye is just padding stats against trash teams. CJ has had to play the hardest schedule I've seen in a long time. Let's see what CJ's stats are after the next two weeks of ARI and LV.
Let’s extrapolate. Currently the Texans have had the 4th hardest strength of schedule with the 21st remaining. NYG, Tennessee and KC have had harder sos. Dart and Mahomes have performed better than Stroud. Maye has wins over Bills, Bucs and Titans. Common opponents. Also a dominant win over a good Browns defense. The metrics that some are claiming CJ is top 10 in have Maye top 3-all of them. Which factors in opponent, situation and other factors. Maye has a terrible Oline, the same level of run game that Stroud does and no one near the level of Nico, all while also being in a brand new system. No one expected the Pats to be dominating a division with Josh Allen in it preseason. Same as we were the overwhelming favorites preseason. Maye is top 2 in MVP rankings, trying to knock him to prop up CJ is weird.
not sure where you are getting your SOS at, according to this tweet Texans have the 29th easiest SOS in the NFL, but only because the teams that have harder schedules than them suck and lose every game. Chiefs are 19th. Drake Maye's SOS is literally the worst ever, probably the worst anyone has had in a long time.
They completed the pass! Yes; a better pass and it's likely 6. But if you're going to extract a single pass that conveniently feeds your narrative, at least find one where he sails a wide open WR or throws a terrible interception. And I'm going to guess Ryans wished CJ had thrown it better because for he's watched him hit that throw for 2.5 years. QBs miss passes. All the time. Stop this desperate cherry-picking where you find a play and scream, SEE?!? It's lazy.
You don't think Josh McDaniels, widely regarded as one of the best offensive coordinators in football, helps? Would you trade Nick Caley for Josh McDaniels? And I get that we sometimes have to shout so our opinions can be heard - but please stop this nonsense that CJ Stroud has been "bad" - that's just absurd.
I agree. He hasn't been bad. I think we are holding our breath to see which CJ emerges for the final stretch. Year 1 CJ or Year 2 CJ. Either should be fine to get us to playoffs. At that point, we may need a few Nico Bombs (or Tank ).
1 year. His first. The last two seasons have seen much of the same. Not the ball placement he had his rookie season, under throwing deep and over throwing short. It’s masked by 1-4 plays a game where he looks great
