I think he is way past what anybody expected given how bad he was just last season. For a young player you just want to see evidence of a high ceiling, the consistency will come as he ages.
Those guys have done a commendable job playmaking for the team this season but even they would benefit immensely from being play finishers instead of play starters. This is what FVV would have done this year. Imagine being the other team guarding a Sengun-FVV pick and roll with Reed in the short corner, Amen in the dunker spot and KD on the wing. That would be hell. I'm not necessarily advocating for a big swing Trae Young type (though I wouldn't mind) to lead a heliocentric offense. I just want someone who can navigate a pick and roll to give us another option against a set defense. There are a lot of guys we can trade for to do that but if you want some names that can be had with literally no asset investment, Dinwiddie or the ghost of Chris Paul can be signed at the vet min in a couple of weeks. They're not gonna start or even play heavy minutes but they give the offense another flavor and I think that's critical for championship level teams.
I love this, especially point 4. It’s been evident going back to Kentucky that Reed sees the floor differently AND he’s shown the ability to actually make the pass.
Well said. Patience is key. Only concern is defense and he seems to be slowly getting better at that, last game not withstanding.
They have to be as good as FVV to get FVV's play time, you get what I'm saying? FVV was overpaid at 25M but you can still argue he was well worth 15M. You cant expect a vet min to be as good as him cuz there's a reason those guys are getting paid vet min. cp3 is shooting at 35% FG this year along with bas defense is that the kind of play finisher you want on the court? I would rather give the ball to KD or Sengun and let them cook.
I thought about it, but "Grading every Reed Sheppard quiz/paper in numbing detail" didn't feel like it had the right ring
A report card shouldn’t just be on offense, where Reed has looked at times like a third pick in the draft should. It also should include defense where Reed struggles dramatically. His 2-3 steals per game mask his awful defensive presence on the court. He gets taken to school regularly and not sure that’ll ever change as he is just an awful defender. When he ain’t hitting on all cylinders offensively, it comes at a great cost to the team as he is a net negative defensively.
They love Tari more than even me. I'd have the JSJ line flatter until this season, with a big uptick this season. I like Sengun a little more than them. Overall, I think it accurately reflects players improvements even with small quibbles. I expect Amen will rebound. I do find it funny that Amen's projection goes down any time FVV gets hurt. It is almost like FVV was helping Amen develop, but Amen is not quite ready to be as valuable as he can be without a PG.
You hit it on the nail! I think we can move him for Colby White and then we can stop starting Okogie!!!
defense has been shaky at times but overall it has been good, and the numbers back it up. When it has been bad, its bad which is why certain times look glaring The issue is that the defense as a whole those games is putrid (mavs, jazz games). The help defense when forcing the his guy to a side has essentially been non-existent. You have to remember ...we play the Zone. It has been an issue all season. Help defense is absolutely essential I would given Reed a B- before the last 2 games and a C+ since then People keep falling onto this myth that he's a disaster defensively which is straight up false, one of the most superficial metrics (+/-) in isolation can be misleading, but Reed has consistently been top 2 in +/- in every single game he's played in the last 13 games. Hyperboles are easy, but sometimes we have to use our brain too and dig beyond a superficial impression
First, that trade wouldn't work since Schroeder is making $14M per year...we'll need to send out more salary and he's on a guaranteed contract for 2 more years. Thats a no bro
