In n Out fries absolutely SUCK because they are cooked incorrectly. Regardless of how “fresh” they may be. Fries have to be cooked once at a lower temp to cook them through and then a second time at a higher temp to crisp and lightly brown the outside. If you try to cook them all at once at one temperature you end up with the crap In n Out serves. That’s why frozen fries (that have been fried once at the lower temp) are vastly superior. OR fresh French fries cooked correctly at higher end restaurants or places in Europe (especially The Netherland and Belgium….where they were invented) are the absolute best! In n Out burgers may be acceptable, but call their fries what they are: partially cooked potato sticks.
I don't want to overhype it but the Pub Burger from Culvers (it's not offered at every Culver's) is around $8-9 by itself but it's one of the best fast food burgers around. Shakes are pretty good too. Though Shake Shack is one of my favorite go-tos. I used to like Hardees but they too have gone downhill. There's a after taste they didn't used to have. On a recent side note - I had the double smash burger from Sonic on the way to CO. Lets just say being on I-70 in the middle of KS after eating that was not a wise move. It was messy in more ways than one...
I have never seen a positive review of their fries and if I have a burger, I have to have good fries, the double double is really good, and they have good shakes, but I don't go as much because the fries suck.................last time I went I got the double double and a strawberry shake but a burger doesn't quite hit without the salty kick of the fries.
I'm sure I've said this before, but the locations in the country are still VERY good. The ones in the city are the ones that have gone downhill. The only time I like Whataburger is when I'm on a Texas road trip.
Good to know about Culver's. I've seen them here and there when I travel and always wondered about them. Something about the color scheme or even the architecture screams "you will get very fat here," and I've avoided them so far. I'll try the pub burger sometime.
i eat at the william cannon culvers once every couple weeks. i drove by it for years without checking it out and i finally went there a few years back and was impressed. their prices are very fair compared to other fast food places and i prefer their burgers to just about any other ff place. my favorite ff fries too. and their culvers brand root beer is hands-down my favorite root beer. and their ice creams are great too. my go-to is the double butter burger with cheese. with fries and a drink its only like $11.50 and like i said, better quality than most ff places. they must pay their employees decently too b/c they're definitely friendlier than most othe places. i havent seen the pub burger on the menu, but ill look for it next time.
