Personally, I've seen enough to plan on backing up the brinks truck to CJ's front door (figuratively). We wandered the dessert for too long waiting for a QB and squandered Andre Johnson & JJ Watt waiting. He may not be perfect but CJ is the guy for the next decade if I'm Cal McNair.
Don't think the Texans WR's necessarily lack speed. (Schultz isn't counted on to be a field stretcher). Technically Tank Dell is the 2nd slowest WR in the regular WR group besides Hutchinson in straight line speed. What have have the "Extra Speedy WR's From UTexas" really done in the league? Jaylin Noel has faster times than Tank, he can get vertical. But doesn't have the crisp route running. Tank plays fast & agile in game speed to get separation cuz he's just good. Noah Brown was catching bombs cuz the line pretended to be decent with Slowik. Better line & better playcalling can get these guys open better.
Many fans hyper-focus on their favorite team’s players: they live and die with every throw, catch, tackle… Few watch games not featuring their favorite team with anything close to the same scrutiny, attention, passion so they miss how common mistakes are across the league. Here’s a list of QBs that miss wide open receivers: all of them. Every one. Even the great ones. But when… Josh Allen does it, you don’t really care as much - or even really take notice - near as much as you do when CJ Stroud does it. So, obviously, it’s going to feel like the Stroud misses are more frequent, or costly, or… He’s not *there* yet. He’s also barely 24 - a month older than Caleb Williams. Bo Nix is a year and a half older. The standard you’re setting… I don’t think it’s realistic.
He's been in the NFL for 3 yrs now, tell me does he look like a guy that;s improving? The guys on 97.5 today said he's having issues with basic things like calling out protections, not getting everybody lined up right etc.... They were also saying other than the Tampa game 2 yrs ago when is the last time you've seen CJ run a great 2 min drill? I agrre that these are things he needs to improve on and it's sad that he's not better at these things after 3 yrs in the NFL. Can he improve on these things? Sure he can, but he's not trending in the right direction and is about to get paid.
Why would I be trolling? That makes absolutely no sense. I'm a Texan fan. I wouldn't waste my time trolling an internet message board.
So your opinion is gospel? I think he's regressed because I'm watching his production on the field. Yes the OL issue hasn't been fixed. He's not inexperienced. That excuse doesn't work. He's got weapons on offense. Woody has stepped up. Chubb has helped. Would like to have Mixon but I think they've filled in well. I'm more than entitled to your opinion. Your holier than though attitude certainly doesn't make for a conversation
I definitely don't live and die with the team but I am a big fan. I do pay attention to the team. For instance I think Will Anderson is the second best defensive player in the league behind Garrett. I don't know if I would take anyone over Stingley right now. Obviously Surtain comes to mind. I watch the games or attend them. I'm a huge NFL fan. I watched Hurts crap the bed against the Chargers. I enjoyed watching Indiana beat Ohio State. I watched as much football as I can. I do understand what you're conveying though. I think Allen is having a terrible year honestly. You're correct inthe fact I normally wouldn't care about him but the Bills do effect the Texans so for that reason I do. I would take Caleb over CJ. I probably wouldn't take Nix. As I said, if it was my pocket book (which it isn't) I wouldn't give CJ 60 million a year. I want Houston to win. I don't care if you're playing QB. Our defense is not going to be able to stay together. This is one our best chances. At least we're not having to figure out if Rivers is still in shape
And the guys on 610 am said Stroud played great, other than the 3rd Qtr. So, its all about who are you listening to, because everyone has an OPINION.
Lopez maybe a great writer but he the worst on the radio. I want to have faith in CJ but I'm not seeing the it factor in him. Not saying Mills is the answer either. If I'm paying anyone its the defense because they are the ones winning the games.
My wish list is a WR with speed wo As with any sports shows, you tend to side with the folks who share your opinion, I personally like 610 but often disagree with some on air talent (Lookin at you Show) but for the most part I can't honestly say CJ is getting "better" because year one now seems like an anomaly, but let me put some context into that, this OC is in over his head as was the last OC. The O Line is not very good and CJ has very little time to adjust. Our D is absolutely elite, and we just need the offense to be "OK" but IMO this is not a recipe for long term consistent results. Until we surround CJ with a competent OC and O Line I am not sure what we have. CJ has flashes of what he can be, and I want that dude, but if you're not going to surround him with talent you will end up like the Chiefs looked on Sunday, a hell of a QB with no help surrounding him and this is the issue with paying one player $50 million, you have to skimp on the folks around him, so what do you do, load up on the D and get an AVG QB for an AVG offense and hope they can Trent Dilfer you to the SB?
Lol not seeing the it factor. He has shown more heart in the post season while some of the faves choke. Browns and Chargers were #1 scoring defenses in 23', 24'. People deep in their own b.s
And for the 7th time… do you think these two aspects could possibly be related? And no, I do not think that cause/effect scenario is simply an “opinion”.
The Texans already did a version of this from their infancy, through hiring Kubiak, and then grooming Matt Schaub into a starter after paying a ton of attention/resources to the line and having coaches who knew exactly how to build that foundation. The Texans also have shown that just hitting on the right coordinator in one off-season can turn an entire unit around (especially when the other side of the ball is already elite). It was malpractice not to surround your young QB with everything possible up front to ensure stability, along with not having a seasoned expert that goes hand in hand with every QB great throughout the history of the NFL. (Walsh-Montana, Holmgrene - Favre, Tom Moore - Manning, Weiss/Belichick - Brady, Vermeil/Martz - Warner, Reid - Mahomes). You also don’t have to do much digging to see why most highly drafted QB’s ultimately plateau or fail…. And it usually isn’t simply due to them. Situation/surroundings/teaching/guidance matters. He’s only 24 and has actually overachieved if you consider all the context.
Like I've said many times before, I think CJ is a Top 10 QB. People point to the defense as the main reasoning the Texans are winning and thats because that's how this team is constructed. Its a DEFENSIVE TEAM. The team takes on the persona of its Head Coach. Can the offense improve, of course! But if you dissect the offense; 2nd OC in 3yrs, below avg O-line, and one legit weapon.....ALL THINGS CONSIDERING, I THINK HE'S DOING WELL.
You can repeat yourself too. Doesn't make you right. Even when CJ has a clean pocket he air mails throws. He's had a bad season. You are offering an opinion. Just because you decide to talk matter of factly doesn't make you right. Blame anyone but CJ is essentially your "opinion "
They are winning because of their defense. To ignore that is ridiculous. Defend him all you want but none of that is accurate except the OL and they've never gotten that correct
Right, you think that despite all evidence to the contrary....that pretty much invalidates your opinion. There's not a scenario where you'd have a rational take on CJ because you are just a blind fanboi. This season he's 17th in the league in passing yards per game, 18th in QB rating, 24th in passing TD's...CJ Stroud is average to below average in every measurable way....it's almost like the reason you think he's top 10 has nothing to do with football.
